The Pink House on Chalmers Street- one of the oldest buildings in Charleston—was once a tavern and brothel. Built in the early 1700s, this building is not only famous for its age but also for its Bermuda-style architecture, which is unique in Charleston. The building’s pink color comes from the “Bermuda stone” it was constructed from, which was a popular building material among early settlers. Over the years, this small but iconic structure has served various purposes, including an art gallery.

The Pink House’s history is a fascinating window into the early colonial days of Charleston, offering a glimpse into the city’s diverse architectural and cultural heritage.
