Before you change the logo, fix the language.

A lot of founders think they need new visuals, but what they actually need is clarity. The visuals are not the root problem. The problem is that the brand does not have a clear position, message, audience, offer, or point of view.

Fridays. Who doesn’t love a Friday, amirite?

The end of the week, the wind down, the reset.

On a Friday, when I shut my laptop, I like to do a full reset. That might include cooking (see prior posts and my love for feeding people), that might include Yoga, that might include binging something that I’ve waited all week for.

It also definitely includes time with my favorite furbaby, Herbie.

I love the freedom I have as a business owner to be home with him, doing the work I love and having him chill at my feet.

And as much time as we spend together during the work week, it’s not always quality. Client projects take my time, the zoom room is always on and I’m running out to network or emcee the Dames during the week.

So Fridays, it’s you and me bud.

One thing I’m taking more seriously lately: making time for myself before giving everything away.

Yoga.
Painting.
Cooking.
A little quiet.
Something creative.
Something grounding.

Because I’ve learned that abandoning yourself in the name of being productive is not noble. It’s just a fast track to burnout with better branding.

Everything starts with a foundation. Even you.

Think about ‘little you’. You had the input of your family, friends, school, coaches, whoever was important in your life.

They helped you set the tone for, well, for your life.

Your brand is no different.

It starts with a foundation.

Your core values. Your vision. Your mission.

You might even say, your ‘why’.

What gets you up out of bed every day, and why do you do what you do?

Then, we assign characteristics to that. We call that the style.

Substance comes before style. Just like you.

You were substance before style, and it shows.

I don’t ride a Harley.

Let’s clear that up before someone asks me what model I have and I embarrass everyone involved.

But I do wear Harley shirts. A lot.

For me, Harley has always been less about the bike and more about the people.

My dad has had multiple Harleys. My parents ride. My aunt had a Harley-themed truck. My sister works in the industry. Somewhere along the way, Harley became part of the family language.

So when I wear the shirts, it’s not cosplay.
It’s context.

It’s one of those personal details that tells you something before I ever explain it.

A little grit.
A little loyalty.
A little rebel energy.
A little “I was raised around people who know exactly who they are.”

And that’s the brand lesson.

The strongest brands aren’t built from random aesthetics. They’re built from identity, history, behavior, and meaning.

A black t-shirt can just be a black t-shirt.

Or it can be a signal.

Your brand has signals too.

The question is whether they’re intentional enough for people to remember.

I wear hats a lot.

And by “a lot,” I mean enough that people use them to find me at events.

Honestly, I love that.

Because the older I get, the more I appreciate the little things that make someone instantly recognizable. The personal details. The signature pieces. The stuff that makes people say, “That’s so you.”

For me, hats became one of those things.

Not planned.
Not forced.
Just a very consistent part of how I show up.
