This was a very exciting semester for our Junior Combots team, Parts Against Humanity! The team started off the Spring semester by finishing the assembly of Goose 2.0, the second iteration of our robot from Robobrawl 2023. The early assembly was in order to take Goose to the Norwalk Havoc Robot League, or NHRL, for their January 20th “New Bots” competition....

Finishing out the spring semester, Freshman Combots has been hard at work on CRACK V2, our mecanum drive hammer/axe bot. As of this post, we’ve competed at two competitions with our robot: NHRL January New Bots, and Robobrawl 2024. We placed 5-8th at NHRL, and 5-6th at Robobrawl. The picture™. Competing at NHRL New Bots was a very interesting experience. Our first matchup was against Mr....

Pacbot 2023 Semester Recap This season we are making major changes to Pacbot, including bringing the competition to UIUC. Last season we won 1st place at the 2023 Harvard Undergraduate Robotics Pacbot Competition. During the competition, we saw how much potential the Pacbot competition has and felt that the competition should happen more than once per year, and in different locations....

This semester was pretty unique compared to the team’s previous four semesters. Working on two robots simultaneously throughout the semester allowed the team to have hands-on experience manufacturing one robot, while also designing another from the ground up. Our two focuses were repairing and improving upon last year’s robot, Goose, as well as creating a new hammer-saw robot. Goose will be competing at both NHRL in January as well as Robobrawl 2024, while the hammer-saw will just compete at Robobrawl....

This year our RoboSub team has made some good progress towards our submarine design. Our mechanical team has been busy in CAD working on parts such as our camera enclosure, magnetic dropper, and various aspects of our hull design. They have also been working on doing basic water tests for servos as well. On the electrical side of things we have been continuing work on designing PCB boards for power distribution and integrating sensors with our Cube Orange controller....

Entering the 2024 year, the Freshman Combots (the sophomore team) have been working hard to upgrade the robot from last year, CRACK. CRACK V2 is now sporting an entirely new chassis with upgraded electronics. CRACK V2’s current CAD render. Our robot is now outfittable with titanium cleats, AKA “wood magnets”, which should give us the additional pushing power to move other robots around easily....

For our final year of combots, we have decided on building a brand new four-wheel drive hammer saw robot named Colossal Avian! This robot will be attending the January 2024 NHRL competition, along with our previous year’s robot, Budget Extinction. The primary weapon of the robot is an articulating arm that swings a spinning steel disk onto the top of our opponents in order to pierce their thin top armor....
