At IT Revival, we pride ourselves on making sure that we keep ourselves abreast of all security issues and problems related to software so that we can in turn communicate any major issues that we become aware of to our customers.

With that in mind, we feel the need to make our customers aware of a problem with a popular computer program known as CCleaner.

CCleaner is a reputable program that is a utility software for Windows, macOS, and Android designed to clean junk files, optimize performance, and protect privacy by removing temporary files, browsing history, and unnecessary registry entries, as well as managing startup programs and updating drivers.

However, we have noticed an uptick in issues resulting from CCleaner trying to update drivers on Windows computers. A specific issue is that CCleaner will advise there are driver updates to be performed, and it will load the incorrect driver and render Windows 11 computers inoperable and the only way to restore is to perform a clean Windows 11 reinstall thus resulting in the loss of all data as the only way to get the computer operational again in some cases.

As a result, we highly recommend the following:

1. If CCleaner advises you there are driver updates, DO NOT install them from CCleaner.

2. Only use windows updates to install any drivers that may be necessary.

A friendly reminder: we are here to help in the event that you feel like you have been scammed or if you’re unsure if your electronic devices may have been compromised.

With this in mind, we offer these helpful reminders:

Do not respond to any suspicious emails saying you have been charged a certain amount of money from an unknown entity and most importantly if there’s a phone number in the email, do not call it.

If you receive an email that says you’ve been charged money and you don’t know where it is from or what it’s for we encourage you to contact your financial institution first. They will be able to let you know if they see any suspicious charges on your accounts. If they do not see any charges that look suspicious, then you can be rest assured that the email you received is a scam.

Also, if you see any unsolicited emails from “government entities” it’s highly likely it’s a scam. Official government organizations still do things through US Postal Service mail.

Just a public information post:

I myself have received several phishing text messages over the last several days. As a result we offer these friendly reminders:

1. Do not panic when you receive any unknown messages when the sender mentions a bank account, paypal account, apple pay, etc. account was charged a certain amount.

2. Under no circumstances should you call any phone number that you received in any of these text messages.

3. If you are concerned about anything at all, call your financial institutions and they will work with you to make sure there are no suspicious charges that have in fact been posted to your account.

4. Delete and Block the sender.

5. We are here to help. We will never ask any specific questions about any accounts. We are here to provide peace and comfort if you receive any troubling emails, texts, or phone calls. We can provide any advice including what's been mentioned in this post.

It is very easy to fall victims to these scams. Do not feel as if you are a less than intelligent person if you fall victim to these scams. Scammers are very good at what they do.
