The money you're saving on those gas station chargers will cost you in the end. These pins should never be touching each other. The combinations here of pins touching cause the Charging IC chip To fail A simple charge port replacement now has turned into motherboard repair.

I’ve seen two iPhones this week with two-factor authentication turned on. They did not have a second device available to receive the two-factor authentication code, but they did know their Apple ID and Apple ID password.

Because of that, they were able to get into the phone, use it, and start a new account. Their $1,500 phones are not bricks now, at least.

This was not possible before iOS 26. Before iOS 26, no one was using that motherboard ever again unless they were willing to do a jailbreak, which would probably only work until the next update.

Long story short, pull that old activation lock phone out of the drawer update and give it a go
