I don’t sleep. It’s not that I don’t want to, I’m just not very good at it. I usually have to wait until exhaustion takes over and my body finally gives in. I think part of it is my tinnitus. My brain fills in the missing part of my hearing with a high pit squeal. When it’s quiet, the ringing is deafening. My hearing aids subdue it during the day. At night, medication is my only hope.
The closest I’ve felt to someone understanding and feeling it was when I heard Sleepless. The lyric “I’ve got the will to drive myself sleepless” definitely connected with me. I’ve been fortunate enough to catch them and a few times over the years. I highly recommend you do the same when they roll through your town. This deck is my homage to them and my personal sleep demon. This project gave me a chance to try out some new ideas and materials. It’s my first full go round with paint markers. You will definitely be seeing more of them in my work. They’re pretty fun and really responsive. Anyway, this i”Sleepless”. I hope you dig it.

My entry for last week’s Student Art Challenge at . I took the bronze in the teacher division. More importantly, my students had a blast! We were given two hours to create an artwork from scratch based on the theme of identity. My piece is a mix of collage, acrylic paint and a little silkscreen for good measure. I hope you like it. It was a fun experiment!

My entries for the Mini Masterpieces show. These were some fun experiments. They are a mix of rust, bronze patina, gold leaf, silkscreen and, of course, marker on vellum. Be sure to check out the show when it opens in March. I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!
