Four kids. One September.

If you've ever run a 2:40 PM therapy appointment from a parking lot while your laptop screamed at you from the passenger seat, this one is for you.

Wednesday at noon I'm presenting to the Colorado Neurodiversity Chamber of Commerce: Why Family Organization Matters at Work. First public look at NixIt before launch.

Jack's car needed an oil change. It had needed one the month before, too.

He is 25. He has a job, a diagnosis, a written report, and a folder of referrals somewhere in his room. None of it helps on the morning the wrench light comes on and his brain files it under "later."

If you love someone neurodivergent, you know that morning. It is not the crisis. It is not the diagnosis. It is Tuesday.

Here is what I have learned building NixIt. Almost every support we have points at the two ends of the story: the diagnosis at the beginning and the crisis at the end. The years in between, where people actually live, get almost nothing. At eighteen the IEP ends, the counselor is gone, and what remains is a family coordinating a dozen apps and five to fifteen professionals who have never spoken to each other.

This year 4,589 autistic adults were asked what kind of support would actually help. Crisis apps ranked last. Tools built for how their brains actually work, connected to people who understand, ranked first.

Nearly five thousand people said: stop building for the emergency. Build for the day.

So we did. Jack's oil got changed. Nobody lectured him. A text showed up on the right morning with the next small step and nothing else.

I wrote the whole thing up, with the research and what an adult evaluation actually costs. Link in the comments.

And if you want to see what a Tuesday looks like with a little help text Hi NixIt! at +19706017871. It works over regular texting. No app, no download.

There is a song in my head right now. There almost always is.

Last night at 3AM it was Deceptacon by Le Tigre. Played it through, got one minute of peace, then my brain served up Private Idaho by the B-52s because it had decided one was built on the other and had to solve it before I was allowed to sleep.

Also true: I can hear my son cough from the basement, two floors down. Same kid says Mom from the next room and I hear nothing.

I finally read the science on all of it and wrote it up. Link in comments if you also have to know.

Who else has the radio? What's playing right now? I'm collecting data.

Have you ever gotten in trouble for being too disruptive?

Have you ever been told you're too chatty? Have you ever been shamed for acting inappropriately in a room full of people who decided what appropriate meant before you walked in?

Now imagine you're twelve.

You are chatty. You are acting disruptive. You can't sit still. You hear the HVAC fan is blowing. You hear a pencil drop behind you. You hear paper crinkling, chairs squeaking and bodies shuffling. The teacher is talking at you and you just can't settle. Your body is doing everything it knows how to do and every bit of it is wrong according to the room.

You know what we do to those kids?

We make them behavior issues. We send them to the principal's office. We call their parents. We build a file on them before they're old enough to read it.

That was me. I'm Chatty Kathy. Literally. My name is Kathy and I never stopped talking.

I fidget. I interrupt. I lose the thread of a conversation and pick up three new ones before anyone notices the first one left. I was diagnosed with ADHD in my forties. A doctor described the way my brain worked and I sat there thinking, that's me. That has always been me. I'd been carrying this internalized anxiety around not fitting in since I was that twelve year old in the loud classroom. Nobody caught it, because I was a good girl who got good grades and talked too much.

My oldest son has spent his share of time during elementary school in the principal's office for the crime of having a nervous system that didn't match the furniture. Different kid, different presentation than me, yet the same system that only knows how to sort children into compliant and broken.

That's why I built NixIt. AI-powered executive function support that works over SMS, built for neurodivergent people by a neurodivergent family. Not a monitoring app. Not a behavior tracker. A quiet structure in your pocket for the things no one taught us how to manage, because they were too busy telling us to sit still.

I'm still chatty. I'm still disruptive. I'm building the thing I wish someone had handed me at twelve.
