The Boston Police Reform Task Force is hosting a listening session to gather community feedback on their initial draft recommendations.

The Task Force was charged with reviewing the Boston Police Department’s (BPD) current policies and procedures and then presenting to Mayor Walsh and to the public recommendations for reform. The Task Force focused on four main areas of review:

Use of Force policies
Implicit Bias Training
the Body Worn Camera Program, and
Strengthening the Community Ombudsman Oversight Panel (COOP) board.

Feedback from this session will guide the Task Force on their final recommendations on changes to BPD policies and procedures.

Working to reform police practices to improve respect for basic human and civil rights, reforms should address concerns about policing, racial discrimination/profiling, diversity, excessive/deadly force and corruption.

The Mass Police Reform Timeline is an effort to provide a context and history for current conversations and movement for police reform and re-imagining and to “show receipts” for the failure to implement meaningful reform despite decades of broad based support for basic measures of accountability here in Boston and Massachusetts. The timeline shows:

- Local incidents of Police use of excessive force up to and including the shooting and killing of civilians and prominent cases of police misconduct and criminality

- Recommendations, reports and findings issued by community organizations, oversight bodies, commissions and professional law enforcement groups

- Changing of leadership including elected officials and police commissioners / administrations and administrative actions

- Original and investigative reporting from local and national news organizations and journalists

- Proposed and enacted legislative and policy changes aimed at police reform, accountability and data collection

Please check it out, give us your feedback and help us add data we may not have captured.
