I am ‘Digital Decluttering’ : If you message me or comment on my posts, I will not see it. Please email me or call/text. My website is the best place to see updates and/or contact me. Website link in bio.
Some of you may have noticed, Hold Designs is not very active on Social Media. Since smart phones were invented and as the various social media platforms have emerged, I have observed the reoccurring process of the ‘rise of the next best app’… and I have also observed how it has effected our overall wellbeing.
As a business owner, I always thought I HAD to have a presence on social media. Lately I have been asking myself: “why am I supporting something that I believe is potentially harmful for our overall health and wellness?” - Not only have I seen firsthand the negative PHYSICAL effects from looking down at our phones for long hours each day (IE: neck muscles and alignment), but I have also observed the EMOTIONAL struggle of being present and maintaining a love for living our own life instead of wishing we had the life of the people we follow. Not to mention the disappointment when you see a beautiful design just to realize it’s all done by artificial intelligence.
I say all this NOT because I think you should stop social media, but because I personally feel the need to explore life without it. I will be dialing back the ‘digital clutter’ in my life both my personal and business accounts for awhile as a test run. If I find that I love life without it, then I may just say goodbye to those ties all together.
Having seen the research showing a massive uptick in depression and anxiety since the start of social media, and witnessing the distancing of loved ones both in overall presence and in conversation, I feel strongly about this topic.
I believe in presence in the here and now.
I believe in a sense of community.
I believe in living with intention.
I believe in the phrase:
“Live the life you love and love the life you live.”
