Zoom Could Get You Hacked - Protect Yourself
-
Many researchers have found flaws in the popular webinar app, Zoom. During this unprecedented time, you may not be able to avoid using Zoom. If you must use Zoom, please follow some simple precautions:
-
1. When setting up a Zoom account, Make sure to use a unique password not used anywhere else.
2. If possible, sign up for a Zoom account using a different email address than your main email account. You can get free email addresses from sites like gmail.com and outlook.com.
3. We recommend you do not talk about highly sensitive information on a Zoom meeting. If you must, we recommend using an alternative system such as Microsoft Teams, which is already included in many Office 365 subscriptions, or simply make a standard phone conference call.
-
It is best to assume someone can easily get your password and hijack your meeting. We have been on several webinars that were using Zoom and we treat it as if we were meeting in a public venue.
