Inclusive Tech World, in partnership with the National University of Lesotho , UNFPA Lesotho, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐๐๐ฟ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฆ๐ผ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ผ๐ฝ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐, hosted a seminar focused on ๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐ฐ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ถ๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ผ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ถ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป ๐ต๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป.
The seminar was held at the ๐ก๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ฒ๐๐ผ๐๐ต๐ผ ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฎ๐ด ๐๐๐ด๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ, bringing together different stakeholders to share their work, experiences, and approaches towards advancing disability inclusion.
The participation of different stakeholders provided an important opportunity to showcase ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ ๐๐ผ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป๐ฐ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป, while also examining the ๐น๐ฒ๐ด๐ฎ๐น ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ต๐๐บ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐ฐ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป. One of the key themes emerging from the discussions was the importance of approaching disability inclusion not simply as a matter of awareness, but as a ๐ต๐๐บ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐ ๐ถ๐๐๐๐ฒ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐พ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป, ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ป๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฒ๐พ๐๐ฎ๐น ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป, as it was stressed by ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ ๐๐ฑ๐๐ถ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ผ๐๐ป๐ฐ๐ถ๐น.
Through ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐, ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐ฎ๐น๐, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐, participants were encouraged to challenge stereotypes and reflect on what meaningful inclusion looks like in practice.
For ๐๐ป๐ฐ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ, a major focus was on the role of ๐๐๐๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ง๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต๐ป๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ด๐ถ๐ฒ๐ (๐๐ง๐) ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ (๐๐) in creating more inclusive institutions of higher learning. Assistive technologies can help remove barriers to information, communication, learning, and access to physical and digital environments, while emerging AI solutions present new opportunities to support accessibility and participation.
Our call is therefore for ๐๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ถ๐ป๐๐๐ถ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ต๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด to ensure that disability does not become a reason for a student to abandon their education, aspirations, or future.
The importance of this was brought to life through the ๐น๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฒ๐
๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฏ๐ ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐, some of whom spoke about having to leave higher education because institutions were unable to adequately accommodate their needs. These experiences remind us that inclusion cannot remain a conversationโit must be reflected in the systems, environments, technologies, and support structures that students encounter every day.
