๐จ Real talk โ this just happened to ME.
I got an alert today that my email address was found on the dark web, tied to a data breach from Chrysler. Even those of us in cybersecurity aren't immune!
This is exactly why we preach what we preach. If you get an alert like this (from services like IDnotify, LifeLock, or even Google), here's what to do:
โ
Change the password on the breached account immediately
โ
Update that same password everywhere else you've used it
โ
Turn on two-factor authentication on your email
โ
Stay alert for phishing emails โ hackers use breached emails to target you
โ
Use a password manager โ if you're reusing passwords across sites, you're one breach away from a domino effect. A password manager creates and stores unique, complex passwords for every account so you never have to reuse one again
Your personal information being exposed doesn't automatically mean fraud has happened โ but it's a warning shot. Don't ignore it.
๐ก Not sure if your info is out there? Ask us. Protecting your data is what we do every day.
