Big news in clean energy ☀️🔋

Last week, Meta announced two partnerships pushing the boundaries of what's possible for powering AI infrastructure.

We're working with Overview Energy to bring solar power from space to Earth—satellites collecting sunlight around the clock and beaming it to solar farms on the ground. And we're partnering with Noon Energy on ultra-long-duration storage that can hold clean energy for days, not just hours.

These are the kinds of investments that help strengthen the grid and support reliable power for our data center operations here and across the country.

Earlier this month, it was an honor to attend and celebrate local impact-makers on April 15th at the Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation Celebration of Giving Luncheon and Beaver Dam Chamber & Visitor Center Annual Awards Gala!

Both events brought together hundreds of community members to celebrate those who make the City of Beaver Dam a truly special place to call home. Thank you to the teams at both Bayside Supper Club and Beaver Dam Country Club for their incredible food and hospitality, and congratulations to all of this year’s winners for the incredible work you do each and every day!

🌎🧊 April is Earth month — and we're proud to share a closer look at the water restoration work happening in Los Lunas.

Water is a shared and vital resource — and at Meta, our goal is to become water positive in 2030. That means restoring more water than we consume in our operations, while partnering with local communities to boost supply, enhance quality, and protect ecosystems.

In this video, our Water Program leads share what drives this work — and how projects near the Rio Grande are helping move toward that goal.

Last week, for Women in Construction Week, we were proud to celebrate the incredible women building the future at Beaver Dam Data Center! From inspiring daily speakers at bench and stretch, to a special site tour with the Mortenson Women of Milwaukee group, our team came together to honor the many paths women take in construction. We also hosted a jobsite lunch featuring gift bags from local women-owned vendors and wrapped up the week with a fundraiser for PAVE, our local women’s shelter. Thank you to everyone who joined us in supporting a more inclusive industry!

Habitat Restoration Efforts are underway at the Beaver Dam Data Center!

In the coming weeks, residents and passersby may notice smoke intermittently from a carefully planned prescribed burn on the southwest corner of the site. This is the first step in restoring natural habitats on the site and in the spring we will begin expanding this prairie northward toward County Road A. The prescribed burn supports our previously announced efforts and state glacial habitat restoration goals to expand availability of the wonderful regional wildlife habitats, such as the Robbins Shorebird Sanctuary and Horicon Marsh.

Prescribed burning is a common management tool used by farmers and habitat managers alike to promote ecosystem health – on our land, we expect it to clear thatch, grasses, and crop residue to release native meadow grasses and pollinator species from nonnative competition while recycling nutrients, building soil, controlling pests, and reducing risk of wildfire.

This work has been carefully planned and will be performed by licensed burn professionals, only if perfect climate conditions are observed. We are engaging closely with our critical partners, including the City of Beaver Dam, Beaver Dam Fire Department, Dodge County, and adjacent landowners.

🌱 Habitat restoration is underway at the Beaver Dam Data Center! In the next weeks our contractor Wondra Construction will begin removing invasive trees and shrubs — focusing on aggressive, nonnative buckthorn plants from wetlands and hedgerows. Restoration can get messy, but it’s a necessary step for long-term habitat success.

☀️ How will this help? In the years to come, this work will open up space and sunlight, and restoration efforts will create a useful greenspace for local residents – but also for birds, native pollinators, and other wildlife.

Meta designs our data center campuses to minimize our impacts to sensitive ecosystems, and once construction activities start to wrap up, we restore landscapes to reflect local and regional ecology.

Spring is just around the corner, and we’re kicking off a new phase of habitat restoration at the Beaver Dam Data Center. Our goal is to create vibrant greenspace that benefits local residents, wildlife, and pollinators. Here’s what you can expect in the coming months:

👷Nonnative Tree Removal: we’ll be removing invasive trees and shrubs — focusing on nonnative buckthorn plants from wetlands and hedgerows, making room for native oaks and improving the health of our wetlands and woodlands.

🏞️Wetland Restoration: our team will restore wetland areas, creating deeper ponds for migratory birds, removing invasive plants, and improving stormwater management.

🌱Prairie Restoration: together with our partners we will prepare the soil, conduct a prescribed burn, and plant native seeds to boost plant and pollinator diversity across the site.

Meta is committed to preserving and enhancing natural habitats at Beaver Dam Data Center. In partnership with Ducks Unlimited, the Rights-of-Way as Habitat Working Group, and other conservation organizations, we are restoring 570 acres of wetland and prairie, of which, 175 acres will be deeded to Ducks Unlimited for long-term preservation and conservation. Stay tuned for more details. We’re grateful to our partners Ducks Unlimited, Rights-of-Way as Habitat Working Group, Stantec, Wondra Construction, and EC3 Environmental Consulting Group for their expertise in carefully selecting these treatments.
