Hey friends!
I case you missed this yesterday....
This summer has been full of typical events in "The 50th Dimension" that I will be launching soon as well as these documents.
Life over 50 brings, unexpected care giving, surgeries and sometimes unexpected job hunting when we'd rather be thinking about Social Security.
Through it all I have been moved to create several "DTD Technology Tips" documents that cater to those overwhelmed technology, caregivers of someone's technical/personal business and the elderly more vulnerable to tech related scams.
Since last month was Breast Cancer Awareness Month I decided to make a bundle of two documents that:
*will keep you from losing track of your personal business after a natural disaster (fires, hurricanes we see more often now)
*has tips for managing the dozens of passwords we have to create and update
*includes a multi page document of tables to record your personal business accounts, providers, policies, organizations so someone can manage your life if you become incapacitated

This week I flagged a 3rd Instagram account being spoofed (faked, impersonated) by some crook using a friend's profile to make fake Bitcoin or other sales.
Many, especially seniors, have been tricked out of a LOT of money by spoofed emails, calls and now social media accounts.

For parents with kids going back to school - know what tech devices your children are using and how they're using them. Don't be tempted by peer pressure to let them do everything that's trending. Parents should be in charge - because you're the parent - you don't need a reason.
Secure GPS tracking, internet history settings, block/SPAM/SPOOF call settings, apps their using, etc. Criminals are getting better at calls/emails/texts that look like legitimate companies in hopes of ripping you off or harming your children.

Apparently it's - wonder why it's on a weekday when most of us need to work?! Well you can relax this weekend if you have personal info documented in a secure place in case of a heath disabler or natural disaster. Hard copies need to be in water and fire proof receptacles as well as popular cloud storage locations. I keep an Ibi local storage device on my desk. I like something I can connect by my WiFi or by cable to my laptop or phone and backup myself.

Today it is . If you are siblings with senior parents it's a good time to collaborate on caregiving plans. Learn your parents' household business, computer access, backup, internet, and personal accounts info. Don't wait for a senior family member to get ill, have a stroke or something that keeps them from managing his/her own personal business. Be ready to be a backup.

Spelman College is saddened to share news of the heartbreaking loss of Julio Gonzalez-Ruiz, Ph.D., associate professor Julio Gonzalez-Ruiz, Ph.D., associate professor and former chair of Spelman College’s Department of World Languages and Cultures (previously World Languages and Literature), who died at his home in Los Alcarrizos, Dominican Republic, this past weekend.

Dr. Gonzalez-Ruiz came to Spelman in 2004. In the 17 years he spent with the Spelman community, he became a beloved teacher, cherished colleague and friend to many. He made important contributions to our global studies program, creating and directing two study abroad programs for our students in collaboration with the University of Malaga, Spain, and CIEE-Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

When Dr. Gonzalez-Ruiz entered any gathering, he brought with him a joyous spirit, positive energy and a warm collegiality and smile that brightened any room. Friends please be aware of Corona virus internet rumors and practice SELECTIVE information forwarding as well as social distancing. If you've gotten rid of cable, at least watch reputable national and your local news online. Online rumors are designed to scare, scam, threaten your technology safety, clog IT networks, and screw up stock prices. Be safe and clean. Have faith not fear! Remember that dingbat from the insurance commercials...."it was on the innernet" don't be her.... please.
