SCAM ALERT: PHISHING EMAILS TARGETING CITY PERMIT AND ZONING APPLICANTS

The City of Green Bay is alerting residents, business owners, and property applicants about a phishing scam targeting individuals who have submitted permit, zoning, or board applications.

Scammers are gathering applicant information from public meeting packets and sending fraudulent emails demanding payment for fake approval fees.

Key details to watch for:
- Demands for payment strictly via wire transfer.
- Emails sent from unofficial domains, such as .com, rather than official City email accounts.
- Urgent requests threatening administrative delays if fees are not settled immediately.

Important facts to remember:
- The City of Green Bay will never require or demand wire transfers for permit or application fees.
- Official City staff communications will only come from email addresses ending in .gov.

If you receive a suspicious invoice or email regarding a City application, do not reply to the sender or transfer any funds. Verify the request directly by contacting the Community and Economic Development Department at 920-448-3300 or by visiting greenbaywi.gov.

Recycle That Stuff in Appleton, WI will be hosting an in-house Electronics and Appliances Recycling Event to help out with the tornado relief efforts. The event will be held from Monday, August 10th through Friday, August 14th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Along with their usual electronics recycling services, they will be offering free recycling for one (1) free TV or monitor per person per day. To qualify for the free TV/monitor recycling, you MUST show proof of residency confirming that you live in a tornado affected area. Standard rates (prices in comments) will apply for any additional electronics, appliances, or any bulk items or for anyone outside of the affected area. Most small electronic items are free, just make sure to remove ALL batteries before recycling. For a list of items that you can recycle and their fees, go to their website at RecycleThatStuff.com. The FBI in Boston announced that they shut down a call center operation in India after busting a major racket that involved perpetrators from the US, too. The call center operation defrauded hundreds of elderly victims in the US and elsewhere out of millions of dollars through tech support scams.
