Most IT pilots don't fail because the technology doesn't work. They fail when it's time to scale.

By then, internal IT teams are often stretched thin. The people best equipped to lead enterprise-wide rollouts are spending their time on reactive support, troubleshooting issues, and keeping day-to-day operations running.

Retail makes this challenge especially visible, but it's one many distributed organizations share. Whether you're supporting stores, branches, clinics, campuses, or other locations, scaling technology takes more than a successful pilot—it takes the operational capacity to deploy, support, and manage it consistently.

On our blog, we explore why IT complexity creates this bottleneck, why traditional approaches haven't solved it, and what a more scalable model looks like.

Few opinions are universal, but it’s safe to say we all dream of a summer without mosquitoes.

Insecticides can harm other species (and us) and mosquitoes continue to build resistance over time. Natural repellents vary in effectiveness.

So, what actually works?

It turns out there’s one advantage mosquitoes don’t have: community.

Washington, D.C. resident Michelle Mingrone found herself facing this problem firsthand. After several summers of an overrun garden, she felt uncertain about spending her summer outside.

As she looked for solutions, she realized something important: mosquitoes don’t respect property lines.

If neighboring yards have standing water, the problem continues.

That insight led her to a nearby example in University Park, Maryland, where residents worked together to reduce mosquito populations by coordinating traps and eliminating breeding sites.

Inspired, she helped launch a neighborhood effort in Capitol Hill. What started as a small idea quickly grew into a coordinated system involving thousands of households and block-level volunteers.

Technology played a key role, helping neighbors coordinate action through shared maps, reporting tools, and real-time visibility into participation and progress.

It’s a reminder that technology doesn’t always solve problems on its own. Its real value is often in helping people work together more effectively toward a shared goal.

Would you try something like this in your own community?

Visibility is one of the most common challenges in complex IT environments.

Not because teams lack tools or expertise, but because scale makes it harder to see everything clearly.

In higher education, this is especially visible. Thousands of devices move constantly across campuses, classrooms, labs, and remote environments. Devices are shared, reassigned, and reconnected every day.

But this challenge also isn’t unique to education.

Any distributed organization sees the same pattern as it grows: visibility becomes harder, risk increases, and maintaining control gets more complex.

That’s what IT Asset Management (ITAM) was built to solve.

ITAM helps organizations bring visibility, control, and accountability back into complex environments—strengthening security, improving compliance, and reducing pressure on IT teams.

We’re exploring how higher education, and other distributed enterprises, are using ITAM to regain control across increasingly complex environments.

No organization wants to find out how resilient its IT environment is during a crisis.

For one of the largest and most comprehensive associations of private orthopedic surgery practitioners, a malware attack during the height of the pandemic put patient care, communications, and daily operations at risk.

Because the organization had already invested in modern cloud infrastructure, it was able to recover quickly, restore critical systems, and continue supporting patients when they needed it most. Despite the pandemic, we were able to respond quickly and in-person knowing the importance of healthcare during such a critical time.

Having handled the client’s prior migration to Office 365 helped Compugen Systems more quickly find the root cause of the attack and remediate it.

Healthcare is the backdrop here, but the lesson applies to every organization: resilience isn't built during a crisis. It's built long before one happens.

There’s no shortage of AI advice right now.

What’s harder to find are practical examples you can actually use inside your business that will lead to measurable results that matter to your goals.

If you’re exploring Microsoft Copilot, the best place to start is the everyday work slowing your teams down.

Sales. Marketing. Operations. Finance. Every function has repetitive tasks that take time away from higher-value work.

Our latest blog looks at common pain points across each of these areas and practical ways Copilot can help reduce busywork, surface information faster, and support better decision-making inside Microsoft 365.

It’s a starting point for identifying where AI can create immediate impact, building user confidence, and uncovering opportunities to improve processes and business outcomes over time.

Innovation gets the headlines. Infrastructure makes it possible.

The right technology foundation doesn't slow you down; it carries you forward.

Every organization is different. But if you support multiple locations, the IT challenges are often more alike than you might think.

Whether it's retail stores, manufacturing facilities, healthcare clinics, financial branches, or municipal sites, the same operational issues tend to surface: inconsistent infrastructure, security gaps, device management, constant site changes, and the challenge of delivering a consistent experience everywhere.

The organizations that scale successfully don't tackle these challenges one location at a time. They build repeatable processes that create consistency across the entire environment.

What distributed IT challenge has had the biggest impact on your organization?

08/13/2026

Every solution we design and every service we deliver centers around the belief that technology should serve people.

We know that behind every device, ticket, and project is someone counting on it to work—whether it’s a client, a team member, or a partner.

We show the same care for each other that we do for those we support.

People are Our Purpose.

Every year, thousands of retail IT leaders attend NRF and see what's possible.

Frictionless checkout. AI-powered inventory systems. Store associate tools that finally feel usable in real-world conditions. They leave inspired and often return ready to launch a pilot.

Fast forward twelve months, and many are asking the same question in a post-mortem: Why did something work so well in a handful of stores, but fall apart at scale?

Retail makes this challenge highly visible. But it's also not unique to retail.

The challenge usually isn't innovation. It's creating the operational consistency to deploy, support, and manage technology across every location.

That's a lesson any distributed enterprise can learn from.
