We broke down how retailers collect product data from dozens of suppliers without retyping it by hand.
📌 One supplier sends a spreadsheet with their own column headers, another a PDF catalog, a third emails photos separately from the specs. A hashtag organizes that data once it arrives, but it cannot make the incoming files consistent. That gap is called supplier data onboarding, and it usually gets filled with manual work.
The process breaks into five steps:
1. suppliers submit through a portal instead of a shared inbox, with access scoped to their own products
2. data is collected in whatever format the supplier already uses, from spreadsheets and hashtag feeds to a direct hashtag connection
3. records are validated against your requirements before they enter the catalog, not after errors are live
4. hashtag enrichment fills what suppliers do not send: categories, attribute values, descriptions
5. clean records flow into PIM and out to every sales channel from a single source
✅ This gives merchandising, ecommerce, and supply chain teams one product record they can trust, from supplier submission through to the storefront.
The guide also includes seven questions worth asking any vendor before you choose one.
