Why Jumbieween Instead of Halloween?

While the world celebrates Halloween, Trinidad and Tobago has something uniquely ours "Jumbieween".

The word jumbie is deeply rooted in Caribbean folklore. Jumbies are supernatural spirits found throughout the stories, beliefs and traditions of our region. For generations, stories of jumbies, spirits and other mysterious beings have been part of how our elders entertained, warned and taught us.

So why simply adopt Halloween when we can celebrate our own Caribbean folklore and imagination?

Jumbieween gives us an opportunity to take the familiar spooky-season atmosphere and give it a distinctly Trinidad and Tobago identity. It can be about costumes, storytelling, music, folklore, creativity, community and, of course, a little good old-fashioned Trini fright!

It is not about rejecting everything associated with Halloween. It is about putting our own name, culture and identity at the centre of the celebration. Instead of ghosts from somewhere else, let our jumbies come out to play. Instead of simply Halloween, let it be Jumbieween.

Our folklore.
Our imagination.
Our culture.
Our story.

Jumbieween Our Tradition, Our Story.

Happy Independence T&T !!

Independence: A Legacy and a Promise

Independence is more than a date on a calendar; it is the story of a people who dared to believe in their own future. It reminds us of the sacrifices, courage, and determination of those who came before us and laid the foundation for the nation we proudly call home.

As we celebrate our independence, we honour the rich diversity that makes us strong and the shared values that unite us. Our differences are not barriers but strengths, woven together to create a vibrant and resilient society.

Independence also calls us to look forward. It challenges each of us to contribute, in our own way, to the growth and progress of our nation. Through hard work, kindness, integrity, and service, we help build a brighter future for generations to come.

Let us celebrate our freedom with pride, cherish our heritage with gratitude, and embrace the future with hope. Together, we can continue to make our nation a place of opportunity, unity, and endless possibility.

Happy Independence Day!

ONE PEOPLE. ONE PURPOSE. ONE TRINIDAD & TOBAGO.

Trinidad and Tobago is home to all of us. We may come from different backgrounds, cultures, religions and traditions, but we share the same soil, the same communities and the same future.

Division weakens us. Unity strengthens us.

When we stand together, we can tackle the challenges that affect all of us—crime, the cost of living, healthcare, education, infrastructure and opportunities for our children.

Our differences should not be walls between us; they should be the colours that make our nation unique.

Let us stop looking at each other as “them” and “us.”
Let us remember that we are ONE PEOPLE with ONE PURPOSE:

To build a stronger, safer and better Trinidad & Tobago for ALL.

Together we stand. Together we build. Together we rise.
