A lot of businesses are being sold the dream of “viral content”.
The pitch sounds convincing: a video company has a few viral videos under its belt, so now other businesses are told the same result can be repeated. Big package. Big promise. Big invoice.
But here is the problem: virality is not something any agency can guarantee.
And when a company promises a huge content package, charges premium rates, then fails to even deliver the videos, let alone make them viral, the issue is no longer just bad marketing. It is a broken promise.
Businesses need to be careful with this.
A viral video can happen, yes. Growth hacking can work. A strong creative angle can take off. But those are upside scenarios, not a proper business foundation.
For most SMEs, a more realistic move is to build a proper digital marketing system:
Clear positioning
Consistent content
Targeted ads
Landing pages that convert
Proper tracking
Strong follow-up
CRO to improve every step of the customer journey
That may sound less glamorous than “we’ll make you viral”, but it is far more useful.
Because if your campaign does not go viral, your business should still be able to generate leads, measure performance, improve conversions, and grow based on numbers instead of hope.
Marketing should not be sold like a lottery ticket.
It should be built like a system.
