๐ Cooperatives and the Blue-Green Economy in the Pacific
Across the Pacific, the blue and the green are not abstract ideas, they are the foundation of daily life. Oceans and land sustain food systems, livelihoods, culture, and community. Yet these same systems are under growing strain from climate change, environmental degradation, and economic vulnerability, placing food security and local economies at increasing risk.
From 28โ30 January, ICA-AP will convene the Pacific Regional Dialogue on Cooperatives as Drivers of the Blue-Green Economy in the Pacific to reflect on these interconnected challenges and explore practical, people-centred responses.
At the heart of the dialogue is a critical question: how can economic development in the Pacific strengthen resilience rather than erode it? Cooperative models offer a pathway, rooted in collective ownership, local participation, and long-term stewardship of natural resources. When designed and supported well, cooperatives can align economic empowerment with sustainable fisheries, agriculture, and food systems, while ensuring that women, youth, and local communities are not left behind.
Bringing together cooperative leaders, policymakers, and development partners, the dialogue will examine what is working, what needs to change, and how regional collaboration can support more inclusive and sustainable outcomes.
