THEORY OF DIGITAL HUMAN PHEROMONES on Facebook
To explain how humans use Facebook, I propose the theory of "digital human pheromones".
Let me explain.
The main functions/types of pheromones used by ants are for: food, navigation, danger/enemy, and s*x.
Now, humans don't have pheromones like ants do.
Hence, once Facebook came along, we started to use facebook like a digital platform for sending and receiving digital "human pheromones". That explains why certain types of posts on facebook get the most engagement/likes:
1) Posts of delicious food we eat
2) Posts of travel places/tourism
3) Posts inciting anger or hate eg against specific groups of people (of any specific race, religion, political affiliation, etc)
4) Posts of s*xually attractive females/males
And the 4 categories above correspond nicely to the 4 key pheromones of ants:
1) to signal food
2) to aid in navigation
3) to signal an enemy / to call for help to fight
4) to attract s*xual partners
The key idea is, Facebook becomes a place for users to send/receive "social signals".
This is not intended as criticism of how things are, but as a description of the fact of how the internet has evolved, or how social media has evolved.
So to continue the trend of evolution, Galaxy X is going to be a new kind of social media, where users can send/receive social signals too. But the social signals on Galaxy X will be signals from users indicating desire to meet someone in person. This kind of signal is completely different from the above 4 categories we discussed earlier.
Question:
When someone sends you a message asking to meet up, how do you measure their level of desire/seriousness?
In Galaxy X you are able to measure more precisely how badly someone wants to meet you, instead of just qualitative "feeling", you can measure it quantitatively, numerically, precisely.
