Last week, we had a company retreat. We spent four days at a historic estate: we completed the rope park courses, went boating and paddleboarding, and spent a lot of time socializing and building connections within teams through various intellectual games.

Our colleagues are scattered across different cities, and for many, the logistics were quite challenging, especially since the airports in some cities are still not operational. That’s why we’ve gathered in the Moscow region for the second time. By now, it’s almost a tradition: the first day is for arrivals, the second day is for team building and the banquet, the third day is more for entertainment, and on the fourth day, we gradually head back home.

Although the main event plan is prepared in advance, each time there’s a lot of spontaneity. This time, we unexpectedly got involved in answering questions from the game “What? Where? When?”, which one of the founders of Maxilect collects.

It’s a pity that such events don’t happen every month. But that makes them even more valuable!

We work fully remotely, so we try not to miss opportunities to meet up with our teams.

Not long ago, we talked about a corporate event in Turkey for the Mondiad project. Last week, the backend team of this project met again in a small group - with those who, for some reason, couldn't visit Istanbul.

The meeting took place in Krasnodar. By the way, this is the very example when the idea of a joint leisure activity was literally in the air. It was very successfully picked up and implemented. The discussion of the meeting came up in one of the conversations and everyone organized it quite quickly on their own, without involving HR.

Although logistics weren't easy for everyone, we had a great time: visited a winery, went karting, played bowling. Looking forward to the next meetings!

Today we've compiled a selection of useful libraries for developers using React:

- Create React App - the best tool for beginners developing single-page applications with React. It can be used with any backend and provides optimized builds.

- Material UI - allows you to import and use various components to create a custom user interface in React applications.

- Styled Components - extends the capabilities of CSS for styling components systems. The library streamlines the development process and enhances the user experience.

- Redux - a standalone library that can be used with any UI layer and framework. It effectively manages the application's state, often used together with React, although they are independent of each other.

- MobX - manages the state of applications without boilerplate, thus extending beyond the scope of the user interface. The code becomes isolated, portable, and convenient for testing.

Soft skills are essential for teamwork. Have you ever thought about how the absence of certain skills is perceived differently from within and outside the team? Internally, it may seem like the world revolves around communication and the ability to be part of a team. Yet, from an external perspective, proactivity and independence come to the forefront - seemingly not "team-oriented" skills.

The key to successful training is to strike a balance - to improve what is truly lacking while maintaining the interest of each participant in the subject. Roughly speaking, when organizing training on communication skills, it's essential to consider them from a "team-oriented" perspective.

A year ago, we wrote on Medium about how this happens at Maxilect.

It is commonly acknowledged that possessing soft skills is crucial for effective team collaboration. These skills are often assessed during…

We at Maxilect are experimenting with HR internship. It's too early to talk about the results, but here's what the interns themselves say about the process:

Why were you interested in the recruiting field?
Before entering this field, I worked as a training curator and generally had a positive experience in areas requiring communication skills. Here, I have to communicate with an extremely large number of people, and it's a kind of challenge. I don't pass up life's challenges.

Why did you choose Maxilect for your internship?
The managers at Maxilect played a significant role. They were the first to reach out and left a good impression. After that, I did a little research on the company, and the decision was obvious: "Why not work in a good accredited company with good people?" It didn't go wrong.

How was the training time in the company? What moments stood out?
The training time passed focused and quickly. We managed to significantly reduce the internship period because we studied the material in a short time. Perhaps the fact that the subject itself was interesting and there was a desire to master it as soon as possible influenced this. Also, the presentation of the material played a significant role. The enthusiasm of our curator greatly encouraged us.

Who was your mentor, and how did they help you learn?
I've already started talking about the mentor - it's Marina. She warmly welcomed us in the first days of our work and was very attentive to all our questions and difficulties. She supported us at every stage. This is actually very important. Although such an approach is often advocated in many courses, it is rare in practice. We can still turn to her with almost any question and get timely assistance.

What skills did you enhance during your internship at Maxilect?
I got acquainted with interesting tools and perhaps became more attentive to small nuances when working on various tasks in sourcing.

Do you plan to further develop in the recruiting field?
Of course, yes. This is just the beginning. I need to find and hire everyone.

In the comments on our blogs, serious debates have unfolded around the concept of remote work. Some prefer an office with colleagues, while others prefer a personal workspace in their own home or apartment.

It's clear that preferences often depend on individual life circumstances. For some, everything gets in the way in the office, while others find it difficult to concentrate at home. But in our view, one of the most important and objective arguments in favor of remote work is the ability to choose how to spend, on average, 2 to 4 hours of life that would inevitably be spent commuting in "office" mode every working day.

Our employees have the opportunity to spend these hours on their hobbies. And on the eve of the beginning of the dacha season, we want to remember Igor - our employee with an unconventional approach - growing exotic giant watermelons in open ground, which is unusual for the temperate climate zone.
