Wholesome news incoming. 😁

When a laptop is no longer fast enough for the work we do, it still has years of good use left for someone learning to write their first lines of code.

So, instead of retiring machines that still work, we pass them to communities where access to technology is the thing standing between a curious kid and a real shot at this field.

Just this summer, at the CODE Kids club in Poienarii Burchii, 23 of our laptops, along with an interactive board and a projector, made their way to a whole team of bright and curious juniors. Each of them now has a screen of their own to build on.

Now, we're working on delivering a new batch of laptops to the right causes.

Let's keep spreading the good news. The world needs them. 💙

Today we're hosting our recurring Commerce Conversations roundtable, which made us think of some of our greatest findings from recent events.

During this year, we've had numerous in-house gatherings with retailers and attended various events, such as ecomTEAM, all of which shaped our perspective for the new season ahead.

We want to keep sharing those insights, starting with these findings from Commerce Conversations:

🫱 One retailer explained how asking for a phone number at the register can complete one's customer profile. Store purchases link to existing online accounts, loyalty data, and purchase trends, consolidating one customer profile.

🫱 Another explained that their teams let whoever needs a dashboard sketch a rough version with AI before briefing the data team, so the brief starts from something everyone can see.

🫱 One retailer hired people into hybrid roles between digital and business to check data quality where it gets entered, and reporting errors went down.

🫱 Others shared how they get help from an AI agent in drafting replies to customer reviews from product specs and company policies, with a person approving each one (response times dropped significantly).

🫱 One other retailer packaged its stock rotation and sell-through data into a service it sells to its suppliers.

Vision? Fine. Cybersecurity? A little less obvious. 👀

The Cyber Resilience Act started applying on 11 September. The act covers products already on the EU market, which means a product you shipped three years ago can put you on a 24-hour clock the moment someone exploits a vulnerability in it.

Then, an early warning goes to ENISA within 24 hours, a fuller notification within 72, and the fine for missing that window runs up to 15 million EUR or 2.5% of worldwide turnover.

Because the clock starts when you become aware, the work that you should do now is to invest in detection and escalation processes.

Knowing quickly, and knowing who files, is what keeps you inside 24 hours. The secure-by-design requirements, the SBOMs and the CE marking arrive on 11 December 2027, and those are an engineering roadmap. This part is an operational one.

That line from our Data & AI Director, Radu Sandulescu, got a laugh from the room at Google Cloud Days 2026 today, but it also landed well, because we've all seen it happen.

We've said it before, and we'll say it again: If you want to get your organization ready for AI implementation, you need clean, structured data. The rest follows.

The event was a blast. Can't wait for next year's edition!

Siri, play "we are the champions." 🏆

Before the month ends, we want to share our top highlights from our sailing experiences this year.

We went to the ORC Romanian National Yachting Championship, and we came back with the trophy.

Our team, aboard the wonderful Lady Diana and sailing under our new visual identity for the first time, took first place in the Class B1 division alongside our partners at sea from the Redlotus Sailing team.

And it turns out Lady Diana has made a habit of this. Back in June, the Zitec & Mirro crew crossed the line first at the 7th edition of Corporate Regatta, through hail and heavy rain. ✊

If we could tell you one thing about the EU Cyber Resilience Act, it would be this. 👇

Meeting it is an engineering job before it is a legal one.

The CRA sets cybersecurity rules for products with digital elements sold in the EU, all the way from connected devices and IoT to firmware and software sold as a product. That makes a product's security the manufacturer's responsibility, applied to the product's whole supported life (so not just at launch).

The CRA came into force in December 2024 and rolls out in stages.

Now, the responsibility may be legal, but what it takes to meet it is engineering.

If you care about compliance, it's worth asking:

👉 Is security built in at the design stage?
👉 Can you list every software component in a release?
👉 Does your build pipeline sign what it ships?
👉 Can you push a security update fast when one is needed?

On 11 September, the reporting obligations in the Cyber Resilience Act came into effect.

That means that an actively exploited vulnerability or a severe security incident now has to be reported to ENISA and the national CSIRT within 24 hours of the moment you become aware of it, followed by a full notification at 72 hours and a final report within 14 days once a corrective measure exists, or within a month for a severe incident.

The obligation covers products already on the market, including releases shipped years ago.

Meeting a 24-hour window depends on what already runs inside your delivery setup. Think:

👉 Detection and an SBOM you can query on demand
👉 Continuous dependency monitoring
👉 A disclosure channel
👉 Supplier notifications

All of them must happen once the clock starts, which is when the event happens.

🗣️ Retailers: before AI is even considered a potential solution or reaches implementation, a few conditions have to be in place. 👇

1️⃣ The core retail systems need to be integrated and talking to each other in real time, so there is a single source of truth.

2️⃣ The AI reaches backend systems only through secured APIs, with clear rules and limits on what it can read and do.

3️⃣ The work starts as a Proof of Concept, small enough to validate accuracy, security, and ROI before it's implemented across the whole company.

4️⃣ Data quality must become a shared responsibility, way beyond the IT department's functions.

This is exactly how we approached an AI project for an eCommerce leader. We started with a PoC for a virtual assistant meant to take pressure off the support team and help shoppers navigate a large catalog.

It started on a dedicated knowledge base managed through structured files, with no direct access to critical systems at first. The results were pretty consistent, with fewer support tickets, a better experience for shoppers, and clear data to decide how far to extend the AI safely.
