They come from paying attention.
One example that really stood out to me is Flo for Partners.
It all started with a stand-up joke. The comedian joked that his partner should get a notification a few days each month warning them to be a little more patient.
Most companies would have shared the clip on social media and moved on.
Flow asked a different question:
"What if this solved a real problem?"
That question eventually became a real product feature.
I love this story because it perfectly illustrates how great product teams think. They don't just collect ideasโthey look for signals. Sometimes those signals come from customer interviews. Sometimes from data. And sometimes from places no one expects.
In our latest Reteno Podcast, Bohdan Lopatiy, Product Director at Flo, shares how the team recognized the opportunity behind a comedy routine, validated the idea, and turned it into a feature used by real people.
It's a great reminder that innovation often starts with curiosity rather than certainty.
