I had a lovely time during the Saturday workshop „Demystifying Font Licensing” with Joyce Ketterer. I recommend attending if you’ll get the opportunity.

Key takeaways for me:
1) A good license should not require a lawyer to understand.
2) IP rights, Patents, and copyrights don’t necessarily work for fonts as you think they do.
3) FAQ, or a TLDR explanation of the license offered by foundries might not explain the license well. This might lead to an expensive lawsuit.

Besides Type jobs I’ve been asked lately to help with a project for one of my oldest clients (gonna take some time…) It’s a good opportunity to look at some branding materials working in their intended environment. The reality is more honest than mock-ups. Logo designed in variable fonts technology was the basis for every material.
