Pakistan’s domestic cricket has witnessed a remarkable display of power hitting as Mohammad Farooq smashed a record 14 sixes in the President’s Trophy Grade-I.
Playing for Markhor IT Solutions against Khan Research Laboratories at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi, Farooq scored a stunning 163 off 99 balls, including 11 fours and 14 sixes. He reached his century from just 67 deliveries.
The explosive innings saw Farooq surpass former Pakistan captain Majid Khan’s record of 13 sixes in a first-class innings, set during his unbeaten 147 against Glamorgan in 1967.
Farooq also became the first batter to hit 14 sixes in a first-class innings on Pakistani soil, surpassing the previous mark of 12 sixes held by Gulfraz Khan and later matched by Wasim Akram.
His century was his third in first-class cricket and second in successive matches. His previous unbeaten 107 came in the opening round of the competition.
Farooq’s innings helped Markhor IT Solutions reach 476 for 4 at stumps on the opening day, with Atiq-ur-Rehman scoring 142 and Salman Khan Jr remaining unbeaten on 106.
