Everyone posts their aesthetic desk setup.
Three monitors. RGB keyboard. $200 mouse.
That's not what makes you ship faster.
Your tools do.
And after 3 years of building real projects — testing every editor, every framework, every hosting platform — I finally stopped switching and locked in a stack that actually works.
This is my honest dev setup in 2026.
No sponsors. No affiliate links. No fluff. 👇
🖥 Editor → Cursor AI
I switched from VS Code and I'm not going back. The AI understands my entire codebase. Composer writes full features. My .cursorrules keeps every generation consistent.
🤖 AI → Claude + ChatGPT + Gemini
I use all three. Claude for deep thinking and architecture. ChatGPT for quick answers. Gemini for research. Picking just one is leaving power on the table.
🐍 Language → Python 3.12
Clean syntax. FastAPI ecosystem. AI/ML tools built in. Huge job market. I know Node too. Python wins for me every time.
⚡ Framework → FastAPI
Auto documentation. Native async. Pydantic validation. Fastest Python framework alive. Django had its time. FastAPI is 2026.
🗄 Database → Supabase + PostgreSQL
Auth included. Storage included. Realtime included. Free tier that actually works for real projects. Postgres under the hood. Nothing comes close.
🚀 Hosting → Vercel + Railway
Frontend on Vercel. Backend on Railway. Both free to start. Push to GitHub and it deploys itself. I pay zero until a project makes money.
📋 Planning → Notion
Every project starts here. PRD. Schema. API spec. File structure. 30 minutes of docs saves 3 days of building wrong things.
💻 Terminal → iTerm2 + Zsh + Powerlevel10k
Set it up once. Custom aliases. Autosuggestions. Syntax highlighting. Your terminal should work for you.
Total monthly cost → $0
Until something grows past the free tier.
Then I pay from project revenue. Never from my own pocket.
The biggest mistake I made early on?
Switching tools every week.
New editor. New framework. New database.
Nothing shipped.
The best dev setup is the one you stop changing and start building with.
Pick your stack. Lock it in. Ship something real.
That's the advice that took me 2 years to actually follow.
