React Native's shadow props are really two unrelated systems wearing the same API.

iOS reads four separate properties — shadowColor, shadowOffset, shadowOpacity, shadowRadius — and ignores elevation completely. Android reads exactly one property, elevation, and ignores all four iOS shadow props. Write both, every time, or one platform ships flat.

The other trap: iOS shadows need a defined background color on the view to render correctly — a transparent background silently kills the shadow with no warning in the console.

Which platform's shadow system do you find more predictable?

GitHub Copilot launched in 2021 suggesting single lines and short completions. By 2026, the same category of tool can plan, write, test, and open a pull request for an entire feature with no human touching the keyboard in between.

The unit of AI output kept getting bigger — a line, then a function, then a file, now a whole task. Each jump looked like pure productivity from the outside. Each jump also quietly removed a checkpoint where a human used to notice something was wrong before it shipped.

None of that is an argument against using agents. It's an argument for being deliberate about where the checkpoints went and whether anything replaced them.

How much of your own workflow is agent-driven at this point?

Most React Native devs eyeball their spacing. Layouts that consistently feel "designed" instead of "assembled" are almost always sitting on an invisible grid, even if nobody ever draws it out.

A workable baseline for a 360px-wide screen: 16px margins on each side, content organized into roughly 4 columns, 8 to 16px gutters between elements, and a respected safe-area band top and bottom.

None of this needs to be rigid. The point isn't a strict system — it's having consistent numbers to return to instead of picking new spacing by feel on every screen.

Do you design against a grid, or go by feel?

Not all notifications compete on the same playing field, and treating them like they do is why a lot of push strategies underperform.

In-app messages win by default because the user is already active in the session. Personalized, behavior-triggered push gets roughly 4x the click-through of a generic broadcast. Rich push with an image or GIF sees roughly 2-3x the engagement of plain text. Generic broadcast push sits around a 7-8% click-through rate industry-wide in 2026. Badge counts are the weakest signal of all — passive, easy to ignore.

If your notification strategy is one-size-fits-all, this ranking is the reason it's underperforming.

A 2025 USENIX Security study tested 16 code-generation models across 576,000 code samples. On average, about a fifth of the packages they recommended didn't exist — roughly 205,000 unique hallucinated package names.

Here's the part that makes it a real attack surface, not just a quirk: 43% of the same hallucinated names reappeared every single time researchers reran the exact same prompt. That's predictable enough for an attacker to register the name in advance and wait.

It's already happened. A hallucinated package called "huggingface-cli" picked up over 30,000 downloads before anyone caught it, and researchers found a fake npm package still live and downloading in February 2026, months after being flagged.

If your CI pipeline installs whatever an AI agent suggests without a human checking the name first, this isn't a hypothetical.
