Top of Search is NOT for you

If you are seeking results in a short period.

One of the common goals of every seller is to be seen on the first page of the search results on Amazon. For many niches, it isn't simple to rank on the first page.

Why?

Because you need to invest and focus only on that, ranking, and CPC for being at the Top of Search is too expensive, and even the CPC could be higher than the product.

But why are some sellers willing to lose money?

They aim for a higher market cap. You can see this with the Garlic Press. The bestseller outmatch the second, third, and fourth bestsellers COMBINED.

To have an aggressive strategy, it needs to be seen by all the customers who want to purchase a garlic press and this can only happen by spending a ton of money on top of Search results.

What can you do if the competition is high?

Invest in long-tail keywords. Once you rank on the first page, go for more BlockBuster keywords, until you reach out to the generic keywords you want.

You are losing on Amazon if you are not testing pricingπŸ’°

With lower pricing, you will move more units with potentially lower ACOS due to higher CVR, thus more organic units and lower TACOS.

With higher pricing, you will move less units with higher ACOS and less CVR, thus less organic units and higher TACOS.

Here is an calculation for you;
$50 price with 10% CVR is 25% ACOS
$40 price with 15% CVR is 23% ACOS
$30 price with 20% CVR is 25% ACOS

And they still have similar margins.

Advertising is not the only metric that you should check. Focus on your pricing strategy as well.

Find something that works both for the product and the algorithm.

The easiest way to approach bids? Nudging bids based on ACOS involves a straightforward, step-by-step approach:

Check ACOS weekly. You're looking to see if it's above or below your goal. The goal here is a specific percentage that reflects how much of your sales you want to go towards advertising.

If ACOS is higher than your goal, it means you're spending too much on ads compared to the sales you're making. So, you reduce your bid by 5%. This is an effort to decrease ad spend without losing too much visibility.

If ACOS is lower than your goal, this means your ad spend is efficient, costing you less for the sales you're achieving. In this case, you increase your bid by 5%. This aims to capture more sales opportunities since you have room to spend a bit more on ads.

This method is simple. It's about adjusting your bids based on how your ads are performing against your sales goals. It's a good starting point for staying active with your campaigns. But as you get deeper into Amazon PPC, you'll find it's just the start. You'll need to adjust and learn more nuanced strategies over time.
