My daughter suffers from stage fright
Just a little back story. When she was just 2–4 years old, napansin ko na ayaw niyang pinagtatawanan siya ng iba whenever she sings or dances. And now, years later, during their Career Guidance event last month she was so ready. Memorized na niya lahat, confident pa during practice. Gumawa pa kami ng hand signal para incase na makalimutan ay masenyasan ko siya.
Pero nung mismong araw na, pag-play pa lang ng intro music (about to ramp na sila), bigla niyang sinabi, ‘I’m afraid,’ and started to cry. She didn’t want to go on stage anymore.
When we asked why, she said, ‘I’m afraid people will laugh at me.’ And I said “it’s okay.” My heart broke as a parent, I can’t help but feel like maybe I’m not doing enough… or maybe I’m not a good mom. But then I remember that raising a child isn’t about making them fearless but it’s about helping them find courage one small step at a time.
To my little one: it’s okay to feel afraid. What matters is, one day, you’ll try again and when that day comes, we’ll be right here, cheering for you louder than anyone else. 💪 You are still brave, even when you cry. You are still strong, even when you step back. Because courage grows little by little and Mommy knows, one day, you’ll shine on that stage again.
