Apple has a new user policy, giving iOS users the choice to be tracked or not and rumors said it's about to go out next year. ๐
As we all know, Facebook uses our data set and sell it to business owners/advertisers so they can run targeted ads. But what exactly is being collected?
Well... first, when we sign up on Facebook and anywhere else, there's always a tick box saying I accept all terms and conditions. Frankly, by agreeing to this, we give out a bit of our information and they can use this whenever and however they want. And the data set includes: ๐
๐Location
๐Your name
๐Age
๐Gender
๐E-mail
๐Mobile number
๐Interests
๐People you are connected to
๐People you are not connected to
๐Pages you liked
๐Relationship status
๐Education level
๐Job title
๐Devices you used
๐Your digital activities
๐Frequency of activities (how many times you used it and for how long)
Whew, that's a lot and makes us feel a bit PARANOID! Ok ok....breathe. Let me explain, Facebook doesn't really tell advertisers who you are and what you look like. They just show advertisers the count of users with the following information above, that's how we're being targeted. Rest assured, there's no stalking. ๐
There are pros and cons of Targeted Ads, the bad side? You are somehow manipulated to click, buy or spend more time on the app. And the good side? You'll find offers that you really need if you ask me that's a big relief because you're not gonna miss out of anything. But not all like this process and we have the right to decide if we want to be tracked or not.
Advertisers will face a big change after this, what does the future hold for Digital Marketers?
