Trump Warns of Tariffs Over Greenland Plan
US President Donald Trump has said he may impose new tariffs on countries that oppose his goal of bringing Greenland under US control. Speaking at the White House, Trump claimed the territory is crucial to American national security and suggested economic pressure could be used against nations that resist his position.
Greenland and Denmark have firmly rejected any idea of a takeover, and many US lawmakers have also voiced concern. A bipartisan group of American senators and representatives recently visited Greenland to show support for the territory and ease tensions, stressing that the views of local people should be respected.

Greenland is strategically important due to its Arctic location and natural resources, and the US already operates a military base there. However, Denmark has warned that any attempt to seize Greenland would seriously damage NATO, while several European allies have publicly backed Denmark and increased their presence in the region.
Despite diplomatic talks, Trump continues to insist the US must “own” Greenland for security reasons, keeping the issue a growing international concern.
