Dry Drowning.
On Steam, Dry Drowning is positioned as a visual novel, although this is not entirely true. And it’s not just that here we have a mixture of cyberpunk and noir with characters who look like normal people (and not like pop-eyed guys with purple hair), there’s also a lot of gameplay in Dry Drowning. And quite interesting.
To the city of vices - a vicious detective
Of course, the authors of Dry Drowning mercilessly exploit noir cliches, such as rain, neon signs, a detective with a dark past who will never become the face of an anti-tobacco campaign (he never parted with a cigarette in principle), sad piano sounds, beautiful girls who are either brutally killed , or kidnapped, searching for an inexorable maniac... And all this - in a typical cyberpunk city, ruled by corporations, security systems and depression.
But admit it, reading this already makes you want to play Dry Drowning. The mixture of cyberpunk and noir is atmospheric by definition (fans of Blade Runner will not let you lie), and then the story and characters are written at a decent level.
We play as private detective Mordred Foley, who works in the gloomy futuristic city of Nova Polemos. Foley has his own agency, a personal assistant, Hera (who is also his mistress), and a reputation that makes almost the entire city hate him. The fact is that some time ago Foley was accused of falsifying evidence in a serial murder case, which is why seemingly innocent people were executed.
Having miraculously avoided prison (thanks to the charismatic lawyer!), Mordred and Hera were seemingly left without work, but then a lady came to their office and made an offer that was impossible to refuse - to investigate the murder of the mistress of a presidential candidate. It is this candidate who is accused of a crime, and we need to acquit him - Mordred has a very suitable reputation for this...

Men of War: Assault Squad 2 - Cold War.
The first “Behind Enemy Lines” (the series is known abroad as Men of War) was released back in 2004. Back then it was a truly revolutionary strategy that captivated not only with fresh ideas for the genre and excellent picture detail, but also with a well-balanced balance between realism and ease of learning. At that time, few were surprised by such successes - the golden age of the domestic game industry, after all. Nowadays, developers from the post-Soviet space please us much less often, but various variations of “Behind Enemy Lines” (mainly with an emphasis on multiplayer) continue to come out, enjoying a certain popularity - apparently, the point is in that very fusion of arcade and realism that is still relevant. True, they are no longer created by Best Way, but by other studios.
Men of War: Assault Squad 2 - Cold War is another strategy from Digitalmindsoft. Just the next one: German developers are not new to the MoW series - they have already made two parts of Assault Squad, and last year they released Call to Arms, dedicated to modern warfare. The new Cold War promised to be at least no worse - but everything turned out completely differently.
Apart from the already mentioned Call to Arms, only “Saboteurs: Vietnam” made a foray outside the World War II setting in the series. Now Cold War has been added to them - as the name implies, the focus here is on the conflict between the armed forces of the USA and the USSR. Not exactly the most original choice, but the time of action here, judging by the set of equipment and weapons of the soldiers, is the second half of the 60s of the 20th century, which is quite unusual for most fictional wars between the Soviet Union and NATO. After all, scriptwriters of such Third World Wars usually choose the 80s, when both blocs were at the peak of their power. Here, most of the equipment and weapons are represented by models from the last war: there are T-34s and Chaffees, and some infantrymen run around with M3 submachine guns or SVT-40 rifles.
One can only guess about the causes and date of the start of the conflict - the developers considered it unnecessary to waste energy on the plot, limiting themselves to a couple of thematic drawings in the form of propaganda posters from the Cold War. It is clear that Assault Squad is primarily multiplayer, but this attitude to the plot leaves a feeling of hackwork. Subsequently, this feeling only intensifies.
