PHILTRANCO TO END 112-YEAR RUN

Philtranco Service Enterprises Inc. will reportedly cease all operations on March 30, 2026, ending a 112-year run as the country’s oldest bus operator, according to a memorandum dated February 2, 2026.

In a circulating memorandum, President and CEO Michael M. Sabban cited years of heavy financial losses that made the business unsustainable, calling the shutdown an “absolute last resort.”

The closure is expected to affect hundreds of workers, including drivers, conductors, and office staff.

MAKINA NG PAMPASAHERONG BUS, NASUNOG

Nabalot sa makapal na usok ang loob ng isang pampasaherong bus matapos masunog ang makina nito habang bumibiyahe sa McArthur Highway sa Davao City bandang 8 a.m. ng Martes, Jan. 13.

Kuwento ng driver, nakita na lang niya sa side mirror ng bus na umuusok na ang makina nito. Kaya agad niyang pinababa ang mga pasahero at humingi ng tulong sa mga bumbero.

Naapula ang apoy sa makina, na base sa ulat ng mga awtoridad, ay sanhi ng faulty wiring.

BUS ENGINE CATCHES FIRE IN ULAS, DAVAO CITY

Authorities are assessing the damage after a passenger bus suddenly caught fire while traveling along McArthur Highway, Ulas, Davao City, around 8:30 a.m. on January 13, 2026.

According to driver Judy Gallardo Saliot, 55, of Rizal, Malalag, Davao del Sur, the King Long Truck Bus (plate NBT6520, registered under Mindanao Star Bus Transport Inc.) emitted smoke from its engine while en route with a conductor and passengers. She immediately stopped the vehicle and evacuated everyone safely.

Firefighters from Talomo Fire Station, together with police and auxiliary personnel, quickly extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported.
