I missed my first flight to LA yesterday and had to catch another one. At first I was so frustrated, but now I understand why it happened.

When I finally landed at LAX and went to baggage claim, I slipped into the bathroom to fix my makeup. That’s when I heard a woman crying. She was sobbing so hard I almost said, “It’s going to be okay,” but I hesitated because she was speaking Spanish and I wasn’t sure if she would even understand me.

I kept leaving and coming back while waiting for my bags, and every time I walked in I still heard her crying. At one point, I heard her say, “But the bus doesn’t come until tomorrow.” My heart sank.

I gently asked if she had Zelle or CashApp. She shook her head no. That’s when I told her I would pay for a hotel for her until the next day. Suddenly, the crying stopped. She opened the stall door, and I saw two little kids sleeping inside.

I can’t explain the joy I felt in that moment. I had been about to waste money on something unnecessary, but instead I was able to do something that mattered. I walked her over to the Marriott and got her a room for the night.

All I kept thinking was… how many people went in and out of that bathroom, heard her crying for hours, and never realized she had her babies with her?

I’m just grateful I finally spoke up. She was so kind, so thankful, and she was just a mom trying to take care of her kids.
