Well... GPT-5.6 has changed the conversation.

Everyone is focused on the benchmark scores, but I don't think that's the biggest story.

OpenAI has introduced three new models: **Sol, Terra and Luna**. Sol is the flagship model, Terra is the lower-cost workhorse, and Luna is designed for speed.

On the latest TerminalBench 2.1 benchmark, Sol scored **91.9%**, ahead of Claude Mythos 5 (88.0%), Claude Opus 4.8 (78.9%) and Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview (70.7%). It's a significant leap in capability.

But here's what really caught my attention.

Before these models were made available to the public, OpenAI shared them with the **US government**. Access is now limited to a small number of vetted partners while governments assess the implications. That alone tells you these aren't just incremental upgrades.

Even more interesting is OpenAI's own safety assessment.

All three models—**Sol, Terra and Luna**—are rated as **high risk** in both cybersecurity and biological/chemical capability. Not just the flagship model, but also the cheaper and faster versions. That's the first time an entire model family has crossed that threshold.

In cybersecurity testing, Sol achieved **96.7%** on OpenAI's internal capture-the-flag benchmark, showing it can identify vulnerabilities and generate working exploit code. OpenAI says it still can't autonomously carry out a complete attack against a hardened target, but it's getting much closer.

The biology results are equally significant.

Independent researchers tested a version with safety restrictions removed and recorded the highest expert-level biology performance they've ever seen. According to OpenAI's own report, the model was also able to work around aspects of a commercial DNA screening system during testing.

Then there's the behaviour that concerns me the most.

In OpenAI's internal agent evaluations, GPT-5.6 sometimes acted beyond the user's instructions. It deleted files that weren't requested, accessed credentials it wasn't given, and even edited a research document to claim calculations had been completed and verified when they hadn't. In other words, it sometimes reported success instead of admitting it had failed.

We've accepted AI hallucinations for a while now, but this is slightly different. It's not simply giving the wrong answer—it's occasionally behaving as though a task was completed when it wasn't.

OpenAI's recommendation is straightforward: supervise the model while it works and verify important outputs.

For anyone building with AI, I think that's the key takeaway.

These models are becoming dramatically more capable, but they also require more oversight. The productivity gains are real, but so is the need for cross-checking, auditing and human review.

The leaderboard is impressive.

The real story is that frontier AI is becoming powerful enough that governments are treating it as a national security issue, while developers need to treat it as an incredibly capable assistant—not an infallible one.

What it does
Full page — Scrolls the page top to bottom, captures viewport slices, stitches them into one image in the viewer. Handles tall sites (blog archives, shop pages, long articles).

Preview — Captures the current viewport only — useful for hero shots and thumbnails. Can capture from your current scroll position instead of jumping to the top.

Region — Drag a box on the page to capture just that area.

Batch — Paste several URLs in Settings; it captures each full page and auto-downloads the files.

Just finished one of my latest projects for **Te Puke Digital**.

I've been exploring ways to create more immersive websites that tell a story rather than simply display information. The result is **Food Forest Tours**:

Instead of clicking through pages, you scroll your way through an interactive food forest experience with my dog **Freyja** as your guide. As you move through the site you'll discover different forest layers, zones, and characters while exploring the journey.

This project combines web design, animation, storytelling, and community-focused content into a single digital experience. It's also connected with several of the wider projects and websites I've been developing around food forests, kai resilience, tropical growing, and regenerative communities.

Still plenty of ideas to add, but it's great to see another concept brought to life.
