"If it's not easy to report an incident, they won't report it."

That line from Jordan, Scott Construction's H&S Manager, sums up why so many near misses never make it onto paper.

Their old incident forms took real time to fill in. Reports could sit in a folder, unread, for weeks.

Now? A crew member logs a near miss in under two minutes — photo, note, done — and every manager on that site is notified straight away.

If reporting an incident takes more than 2 minutes, most people won't do it properly.

Not because they're careless. Because the process gets in the way.

Find the right form. Work out who to send it to. Write everything up from memory. Attach photos somehow. Hope it ends up in the right place.

By the time someone works through all of that, the details are already fading. The exact time is approximate. The sequence of events is reconstructed. And half the time the report never gets filed at all because something more urgent came up.

The harder it is to report, the less that gets reported. And the less that gets reported, the less you know about what's actually happening on your sites.

Incident reporting should take less time than making a cup of tea.

Photo taken. Details logged. Submitted. Done.

Did you know signing into site via SiteConnect can be done without the app?

Workers can simply use their phone’s camera to scan a SiteConnect QR code and complete sign-in.

Here's how:

1️⃣ Arrive on site and open your phone’s camera.

2️⃣ Point the camera at the SiteConnect QR code (there’s no need to actually take a photo).

3️⃣ Hold your phone steady so the full QR code is visible.

4️⃣ Wait for the link or notification to appear on your screen.

5️⃣ Tap the link or notification to continue to the sign-in form.

6️⃣ Read the daily site acknowledgement and important site information.

7️⃣ Enter your details and tap Sign In.

💡 QR code not detecting? Check your phone settings to make sure QR code scanning is enabled for your camera.

A simple digital sign-in helps workers get the information they need before getting started on site.

The pencil-on-a-string at the site gate has done more work than it gets credit for.

Rain. Mud. The occasional coffee spill. Workers who "just popped in for five minutes." Visitors who signed their name as a scribble and were never seen again.

It's done its best.

But a string and a pencil can't tell you if a visitor's induction was completed. It can't flag that someone arrived at 7am and still hasn't signed out at 4pm. It can't account for everyone in an emergency evacuation.
