I'm English, and I love British HiFi, but man, it's a pain in the arse to work on!

This Musical Fidelity B1 suffered a catastrophic failure. It was hard to understand the series of events causing this, but the result was all output and driver transistors, emitter resistors, and half of the power supply were junk. Someone else had already had a go at repairing this, choosing to cut the traces instead of desoldering them, so there was some trace repair too.

This kids, is what happens when your amp has no protection circuit. Looking at you

Anyway, finally fixed. Some head scratching as to how to offset and bias, but we got there in the end!

Off the wall Mission Cyrus 2 in a while back for a service and recap. Some burned resistors, and generally sounding a bit meh. Awful Roedenstein caps which for me are a replace on sight. A switchable MM/MC phono stage is a bonus

A couple of hours is all it takes to get these ready for the next generation to enjoy.

Next up - Marantz PM-80 bought from Trade Me for a modest price. What a beast! 9/10 cosmetically and beautifully built with the technician in mind. Easy access and all that. 100WPC, MM/MC phono inputs, amongst other things. Schematic could be better, though.

I know we've posted one of these before, but this one was worth it.

A 8/10 cosmetic NAD 3020 sent to us by a wonderful human, the Rt. Hon Bruce Knipe, VC, DFC and Bar. Part time Ent, skilled raconteur, keen pigeon fancier and beard oil milker.

Miserably weak left channel caused by a cracked PCB, knackered Pre/Main RCAs, and just the other standard NAD woes.

So, full recap, new speaker terminal, new power switch (amongst other things)

Sings now. These units still amaze me with their clarity, musicality and oomph for only 20WPC (31.6 WPC by my oscilloscope)

A beautiful Marantz 2252 came my way from a local HiFi shop needing some love. Real scratchy, lacklustre, and definitely not pumping out that 'Marantz Sound'.

Serviced, replacement of well known noisy transistors, replaced out of spec capacitors, new headlights and a new power switch.

Interestingly, Marantz of this epoch date stamp manufacture in Japanese 'Showa' date format, and I was unsurprised to see this unit is 5 years older than I am!

A very unhappy Sherwood S-7910 came our way, stuck in protection mode. After replacing a few moody capacitors, amongst other things, this unit went like a dream! A really gorgeous piece is vintage HiFi, especially with the new LEDs!
