As the addage goes, “ The more things change, the more they stay the same.” In saying this, when delivering solutions to customers, there are common issues that we face when solutioning our customers future state. I’ve outlined five of the key out points/challenges we face as well as possible remedies.
1. Insufficient planning and requirements gathering: Companies often rush into implementing an ERP solution without thoroughly understanding their business needs and processes. The remedy is to conduct a comprehensive analysis, involving stakeholders from different departments, to align the solution with specific requirements.
2. Poor data management: Inadequate data migration, lack of data cleansing, and improper integration can lead to inaccurate information in the ERP system. The remedy is to establish a data governance strategy, conduct data audits, and invest in data cleansing tools to ensure high-quality data.
3. Inadequate training and change management: Companies sometimes neglect proper training and change management processes, resulting in resistance and low user adoption. The remedy is to develop a training plan that includes hands-on workshops, user manuals, and continuous support to empower employees and ensure they embrace the new system.
4. Over-customization: Companies may over-customize their ERP solution to match their existing processes, making future upgrades and integrations difficult. The remedy is to find a balance between customization and leveraging standard ERP functionality to avoid system complexity and maintain flexibility.
5. Lack of post-implementation support: After going live, companies might neglect ongoing support and system maintenance, leading to issues and inefficiencies. The remedy is to establish a dedicated support team, conduct regular system audits, and prioritize continuous improvement and optimization to maximize the benefits of the ERP solution.
