Technaturally Your Life, Enriched by Technology Hello,

I am John Gillanders, Director of Technaturally. That's me in the 'authenticity' photo.

I am here to share knowledge, skills and tools to make it easier for you to:
Learn who you really are
Know what kind of life you want
Help you get there faster and easier, and
Live a life of fulfillment

I have a huge vision for a better world based on making personal growth easier, more enjoyable and more accessible via technology. I believe that technology has great potential to help guide you t

owards the life you truly want to live. To meet this potential, it must be designed based on natural principles of our world and on human needs. My goals for Technaturally are:
To make a significant positive difference on a global scale
To inspire and empower people to grow, uplift and support one another
To make technology more natural: easier, more reliable and more intuitive

I am working on the following to achieve these goals:
Sharing ways to make personal development and growth easier, more accessible and more effective using technology, via articles on this website (soon to come)
Creating new human-focused technology which puts the needs of people first, and motivating and helping others to do the same
Leveraging the power of the Open Source and Open Culture movements, where people share their work with few or no restrictions for the betterment of humanity and to encourage creativity, innovation and collaboration

I am looking for people who want to make the world a better place for everybody (both for people, and for animals that share our world with us). If the thought of this excites you and you would consider joining me on a journey to leave this world better than how we found it, please contact me and tell me a bit about yourself: I'd love to hear more about you. I am especially looking for people who have experience in connecting people from around the world into project teams to develop high-quality technology. John Gillanders

Voice recognition for reminders is really useful, but not so much when it misunderstands what you said… I got this reminder: “Fix the logic in kilogram to show the name of to beauty four Crater” and it took me quite a while to figure out what I had actually said to my phone to be reminded of! 😆😂🤣

(In case you’re wondering, it was “Fix the logic in Colibrium to show the name Ōtepoti for Kāi Tahu”).

As Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori comes to a close for another year, this article may come in handy showing you how to type tohutō (macrons), the lines over some vowels in te reo Māori which indicate a longer version of the vowel's sound. The article covers how to do this on mobile phones, tablets and computers. 🪄📱💻

When writing in te reo Māori, it’s important to include the line above vowels in some kupu (words), since it changes the pronunciation and even the meaning in some cases. The line is called ‘...

Find out how long the line is at supermarkets (or other essential shops) during the COVID-19 pandemic and let others know by sharing how long the line is if you’re there now (crowd-sources information updates). Make sure to allow the website access to your location for it to work.

A randomised controlled trial done by University of Otago (my own alma mater) has shown that mindfulness apps can improve mental health, but that sticking to using them can be difficult.

A University of Otago study has found that using mindfulness meditation applications (apps) on phones is associated with improvements in people's mental health.

New Zealanders, please take the time to give our government feedback about how we should measure wellbeing.
Our government is doing groundbreaking work to put national wellbeing in the centre of our goals by expanding the definition of national success away from only a financial measure (GDP) to a much more important set of measurements: wellbeing of various aspects (health, environmental health, happiness, etc.)

A Dunedin game developer has launched a new family-friendly game called Colibrium, which differs from the usual shoot 'em up type. John Gillanders, of Technaturally Games, hopes to appeal to the mindset of people who do not normally play video games.
