Our founder, Larissa Logan, has spent her career working with business owners through some of their hardest moments. In this article, she talks about why insolvency work is about more than closing businesses: it can mean finding a way to restructure, protect jobs and preserve what owners have built.

“People might see us as corporate undertakers but it’s just not like that,” says Larissa Logan FCA. “We are all about trying to save the business, save people’s jobs and investments, and find levers to pull which can turn the business around.”

Logan is one of the most experienced insolvency practitioners in New Zealand, and is active in the profession as a board member of the Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association of New Zealand (RITANZ).

Insolvency, says Logan, is exciting because it is fast-paced and varied, and because in many situations there are opportunities to restructure a business and salvage something of value for the owners and creditors.

ALYRT pitched in the FinTech division at the NZ Tech Expo - against heavy hitters - and made it through to the final round! We didn't take out the final, but the feedback afterwards was awesome! Glad to be building a solution that helps real people with real problems - like cashflow!

Ever notice how a city's mood rubs off on its businesses? 🏙️

In this episode, Brad Jacobs (The Coffee Club NZ) talks about why his Christchurch cafés are doing so well.

He reckons it comes down to the positive, proud energy of a city that had to rebuild itself from the ground up. Auckland, has had years of construction too, but without a masterplan. Lockdowns and disruption have left a lot of us stuck in a bit of a negative headspace and once you're there, it's easy to drag others down further.

Food for thought next time you're feeling flat about your business.

Mindset matters more than we give it credit for.

"I'm just not a numbers person."

That's one of the most common things David Altena hears from business owners — and it's a trap. You can and should bring someone in to help with the finance side, but the responsibility doesn't go anywhere. It's still your business.

His advice: let them do the job, but make sure they're teaching you along the way. You don't need to become an accountant — just confident enough to ask the right questions.

Build a vision for your business and actually achieve it.

Ever thought your switchboard could save your life? 😳

On the latest Fix & Fly episode, Jim Marsh from High Performer Building told us about a family enjoying a spa and a glass of w**e, when corroded wiring turned dangerous. Their old switchboard didn't notice a thing — a newer smart one would have shut the power off instantly. These smart switchboards do more than keep you safe too: they can save you real money, sometimes $600+ a year just by nudging you to switch power providers.

Kind of wild that one upgrade can be both a safety net and a money-saver.
