yölk

yölk A nurturing space for budding Pan-Asian creatives in Aotearoa to connect, create, and collaborate 🌱🌸 Kia ora Gwen and Alyssa here! Arohanui,
Gwen and Alyssa

We’re a film and graphic design duo with mutual passion for our work and friendship. We are incredibly motivated with our love for people, sharing creative inspiration, and our hope for the future. Thus, came the birth of yölk - to support fellow emerging Pan-Asian creatives by starting a kōrero surrounding our current obstacles, inspiration…and how we like our eggs. We believe those who are at th

e start, or along their creative journey instigate forward-thinking conversations about the future of Aotearoa. We want to create this accessible space that encourages transparency, empathy, and a place to meet new friends! An ongoing movement - of creativity, connection, and collaboration. Can’t wait to grow with you all!

Eggies don’t miss out on THE FIRST PRIME TIME ASIAN SITCOM by and directed by . Book your tickets through Q Theatre’s website - see y’all there!! 🍳

"It’s funny when we’re telling the jokes, but what happens when we’re not the ones laughing anymore?"

Welcome to the live taping of the first ever prime-time Asian sitcom in Aotearoa. It’s a blazing moment in canned-laughter history, but behind the cheerful trash-talk lies a more sinister question: given a seat at the table, how much are you willing to compromise everything you stand for?

Clever, probing and anarchically cheeky, The First Prime-Time Asian Sitcom is a genre-messing black comedy that exposes the conversations haunting our writers rooms and the characters that swing between subversion and stereotype.

This thrillingly unique-to-Aotearoa premiere comes from writer, filmmaker and producer Nahyeon Lee. Building on development seasons with both Proudly Asian Theatre’s Fresh Off The Page and Tawata Production’s Breaking Ground, this work marks Lee’s playwriting debut and follows the success of her section in anthology feature film Kāinga, which was selected for the New Zealand International Film Festival (2022) and Melbourne International Film Festival (2022).

The First Prime-Time Asian Sitcom contains mention of racial violence.

Words cannot eggs-plain how thankful and grateful for every single one of you human beans for attending YÖLKFEST 2021.

🥚A year ago, we were just recent graduates not knowing which steps to take next - stuck in this inbetween-ness. We were hopeful that we weren’t the only ones feeling this way. So, we used this as an excuse to meet new creatives, and friends!

🐣5 months ago, we started our journey at MoveSpace. Recording our podcast with friends and strangers – who are a part of our eggie family now. We are so grateful and appreciative that they shared their time and space with us in our little podcast room. Thank you for being there right at the start of yölk!

🐤2 months ago, we wanted to share the same magical feeling that we feel in our podcast rooms. The feeling that you know this complete stranger. The feeling of pure human connection. YÖLKFEST was/is a place to not only share and celebrate art, but to share and celebrate the folks behind the art.

Shout out to these creatives for sharing a piece of their soul with us all: .duque .studio .smallthings .yao

And of course we couldn’t have done it without: Creative New Zealand Kiran Patel - Filmmaker Death to Stock Goto Guys Team work makes the dream work!

And thank YOU for coming and connecting with us – it was absolutely indescribable. Blessed to have shared the present with you all 🌅

As we head into Level 3, please check in with your loved ones, and reach out if you need an extra ear ❤️
