Metals which are capable of forming a continous series of solid solutions with each other exhibit the highest degree of weldability,whereas metals with limited solubility in the solid state have a lower weldability.But Metals which are mutually insolube in the solid state are entirely unweldable by fusion methods.

Sponge Iron:
Sponge iron is a kind of iron produced by direct reduction of iron ore without going through the molten stage.The product of direct reduction is a porous type of iron similar to sponge apperance.There are many kinds of sponge iron.
(1) Freshly produced sponge iron has the same shape and size as that of original particles of the iron ore from which it was produced.
(2)In case,if fine ores are used,the freshly produced sponge iron will be in the form of powder,which may be agglomerated by rolling into plate form or by compressing it into briquettes.
(3)If the starting materials are highly pure and special benificiation process are carried into the ores are used,a high purity sponge iron can be produce.

Wrought Iron:
It is prepared from pig iron by burning out C,Si,Mn,P and S.So it is also known as purer form of pig iron.Pig iron consists more than 6% of these impurities but their impurities is reduced to 1% in wrought iron.

Copper-zinc-nickel alloys
(a)The Alloy containing 7-30% nickel,63% copper and the reminder zinc is known as German silvers,although it does not contain any silver.
(b)The alloy containing about 45% copper,45%zinc and 10%nickel can be used as extruded sections for architectural and ornamental purposes because of its silvery colour.
