Cover design for Dance or Die: A History of Hardcore.

We’re honoured to have played a small part in the mammoth task our mate Holly Dicker undertook to document the untold story of hardcore. Dance or Die is the first deep dive into global hardcore culture, from its Frankfurt roots in the early 90s to Rotterdam raves, Berlin bunkers and beyond.

Holly’s dedication to the scene, and to sharing her version of this history, is ineffable. Proud is an understatement 👏

'Vrijheid Verwoord' Exhibition (Verbalize Freedom), a project we had the privilege of designing for KADE40 in the context of the Day against Discrimination.

A bold, open space where visitors engage with questions from Amnesty International and reflect on the meaning of freedom. The exhibition also features a powerful poem by Elisa Costa and spoken word workshops led by teacher and rapper Sarah Lee, raising awareness of the power of language in the fight against discrimination.

Grateful to be part of this project, initiated by KADE40, where our design helps create space for meaningful dialogue.

On view until April 17 at KADE40 💙
A big thank you to Titia Hahne for the beautiful photos.

Looking Back, Moving Forward 🟣
As the year comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect and celebrate.

We’ve just added a case study of the Drift identity to our website. Over the past 5 years, we built and evolved this visual universe, delivering vibrant campaigns to spotlight Nijmegen’s dance paradise. There’s no way to sum up all the designs we created, but here’s a little taste of summer 😎

Take a moment to view the full case study on our website!

Massive shoutout to the dream team over the years:

Proud to share our publication design for De (on)beperkte stad / The (un)limited city.

This booklet features 10 personal stories highlighting the (un)limited accessibility of public spaces for Rotterdammers with mobility restrictions. Distributed to designers, architects, and urban developers, the publication aims to inspire a fresh approach: designing with disability at the heart of the process.

Our visual concept explores the 'blind spots' in how we envision an accessible city, challenging us all to see and design for everyone.

Texts by Tara Lewis & Anneke Kortleve
A project initiated by Rotterdam Onbeperkt (Rotterdam Council) & Dura Vermeer (Program Social Impact)
Research and production by Social Snackbar (Partner: Arttenders)
Design by yours truly, ST-DUO

We are pleased to have played a role in this project which supports our commitment to creating spaces where accessibility is not an afterthought but a starting point!

— Our final campaign for

After an incredible 5 years of collaboration, it's time to embrace new energy and new opportunities. We’re so grateful for the journey we’ve shared with this amazing team—pushing boundaries, inspiring each other, and creating bold campaigns.

We'll always have a soft spot for the beautiful Raisonne typeface, and will share a full case study of the Drift identity soon!

For now, here’s a glimpse of this year’s campaign, created with the brilliant ❤️‍🔥

See you on the dancefloor this Saturday? 🍁

We’re excited to invite you to Dutch Design Week 2024, where we’ll be sharing our project, ‘A New Way to Grow,’ in collaboration with ✨

Back in 2020, we wrote ‘A Manifesto for a Better World’ that we were planning to debut at Dutch Design Week. But—like many things that year—it was cancelled due to Covid. Even though we couldn’t present it, the manifesto has been a huge part of our journey ever since. The manifesto outlines 5 attitudes that empower people (including us!) to make the world a better place. Since then, it’s helped us find amazing clients who share our vision.

Fast forward to today: we’re bringing the manifesto back to Dutch Design Week, this time in the empowered form of our wonderful partners → Misiconi.

Misiconi is a Game Changer.

We’ve been working closely with and her team for the past four years, and it’s been such a privilege. Their unique approach to dance and their passion for bringing a new perspective makes them pioneers in dance as well as inclusive education.

This , we’re inviting you to explore our research and dive into the questions we’ve been tackling, like:

"If dance education isn’t designed with your body in mind, how do you keep growing?"

Come find us! We’ll be at the Dutch Design Awards exhibition in the Microlab and also at the Embassy of Inclusive Society exhibition at Ketelhuisplein.

October 19–27, 2024
Daily from 11:00 to 18:00
(after 6 PM = join us for 🍺 fueled discussions)

If you’re going to be there, please let us know!
We’d love to catch up, share more about the project, and maybe even show you around our exhibitions.

Today marks the start of the third edition of 💨

Once again, we have been busy designing the campaign. It is always a pleasure to create for this cutting-edge gathering. Where experimental music and contemporary art are the means to discuss the ever evolving relationships between humans and machines.

We will share more of our outcomes soon, but for now we highly recommend joining us over the next four days. Starting tonight at Plein 1940 with a free opening concert.

Big shout out to the whole team for their unwavering effort!

Pleased to share this mini-documentary about our research project with Misiconi Company thanks to Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie

“ Designing for inclusive dance education. The dancers at Rotterdam-based Misiconi are a mixed group of dancers with and without disabilities. They are pivotal to the project Design Thinking = Design Doing! by design studio ST-DUO. Designers Sophie Balch and Tijn de Kok developed a set of visual learning tools in collaboration with Misiconi to help the dancers in their personal development. We observed a workshop where a prototype of the toolkit was tested.” Read the full article via Stimuleringfonds!

We had the pleasure of designing the exhibition Air & Play (Lucht & Spel) for Van Eesteren Museum

The expo is the first retrospective of the Eventstructure Research Group (ERG) 1967-82. The Amsterdam-based group focused on creating temporary art in public spaces focused on play and interaction through their large inflatable installations.
Our task was the spatial and graphic design of the exhibition using original archive material; drawings, sketches, material studies, aerial artworks, video material and photos.

Inspired by the ERG's playful approach we used transparent materials and techniques such as suspending and hanging to create a feeling of air. We had the pleasure of diving into the photography archive of Pieter Boersma and collaborating closely with the curation team; Jorn Konijn and Rosa van Rumpt.

Lucky for those who missed it; the exhibition has been given a second life by TU Eindhoven and is on display at until March 26th.

You can see many more pictures on our website!

We are proud to present our new publication in collaboration with Misiconi →A New Way to Grow, New perspectives on growth and assessment in inclusive dance practise.

This book is the documentation of our research into how design can enrich inclusive dance education. Giving insights into our design method and the prototypes for a toolkit to aid dancers with a disability to document their growth process. There are also interviews with experts from the fields of education and design as well as a deep dive into Misiconi's innovative talent development route.

This interdisciplinary project has been an ongoing dialogue between movement and design. It has been a wonderful journey. The exchange of knowledge between these two practices has the potential to be groundbreaking on multiple levels.

We will present the book on 9th February at Misiconi’s Studio in Rotterdam at 16:00 and we would love you to join us to celebrate. Drop us a message if you want to join!

1m2 x 2 at DDW'23

We () are back at this year's with not one but two 1m2 exhibitions. Our goal is to provide a solution to the financial barriers that make exhibiting at a major design event unattainable for starting designers and slowly but surely, 1m2 at a time, make this design event more inclusive!

We are proud of our small voluntary team that makes this possible
