NOT IN THE FRIDGE, BUT IN THE FREGGIE.

Not every fruit or veggie you have to keep in the fridge, but where to keep those which don’t need to be kept in the fridge, but still conserve them in the best way? Well ventilated, in darkness or light, in a dry or humid, open or closed, cool or warm place. FREGGIE has it all.

Introduction:

FREGGIE is a cabinet specially designed for fruits and vegetables that don’t need to be stored in the fridge and saves you a full countertop. The name FREGGIE is a combination of the words fruits and veggies.

Mission:

FREGGIE provides a qualitative and unique place to store your fruits and vegetables, in where they will be optimally preserved and organized.

Product analysis:

FREGGIE is an innovative kitchen cabinet designed to store fruits and vegetables outside of the fridge. The design is specially adapted for certain kinds and sizes of fruits and vegetables. The terms arranging and categorizing play an important part in de appearance of FREGGIE. This resulted in a geometric style. Also, I thought about how to conserve the food in the best way and that’s why the shape, the material, the transparency and the layout of the cabinet are adjusted to one another. The utility value mainly lies on the functionality with a focus on distinctive design. FREGGIE gives a feeling of simplicity, subtlety and playfulness.

- Worldwide 75% of all crops are extinct in the last century
- More types of crops are likely to extinct or are forgotten
- Reduction of biodiversity (uniformity)
- Little variation of vegetables at grocery stores
- Vegetables are genetically modified and get treated chemically

RE-VEG is a brand that arose with the idea to solve these overarching problems.

We pay attention to the vegetables that are forgotten (historical vegetables).

Our ancestors were accustomed to these vegetables by having those on their standard weekly menu. And we want to bring this back.

RE-VEG lets the consumer get re-acquainted with these forgotten vegetables by making cold pressed juices. A way to make something old, hip again.

Because these types of vegetables are not mass production, they come from local farmers, which makes these cold pressed juices 100% organic.

This brand contributes to a feeling of happiness because the consumer will feel that they contribute to the creation of a better world by saving the forgotten vegetables. RE-VEG will ensure that these vegetables return and will be retained with the idea that they may never disappear.

For this assignment I had to fully revise and improve (restyle) the brand Verstegen based on the two pillars branding and packaging. Hereby emphasising the USP's was a important specification. And it needed to be a repositioning that can handle the competition by strengthening Verstegen's brand values, ensuring continuity, distinguishing in design and by creating greater brand awareness and a better reputation. With this briefing I started my research and developed a design which contain solutions to these issues.

This packaging design shows the aesthetics for in the kitchen, aiming people who are experienced with cooking and want to show their professional skills. This packaging design is inspired by a mortar with pestle, which are used to grind and mix spices. This results to the fact that this packaging design can be re-used as an mini mortar when it is empty after use. This concept emphasises quality and durability.

Finished making the concept design of FREGGIE the fruits and veggies cabinet in 3D software program Rhinoceros.

FREGGIE will be real soon; making it 1:1 size is still in progress.
Look forward to the launching in the end of June.

The past weeks of semester 2, I have been working on two projects for packaging design class. Today the first quarter of this semester was finished with the final presentation.

For the first project I had to choose a snackbar for which I wanted to redesign the whole brand including the logo, packages and an new store experience. I chose Febo.

The Trottertube is a product, designed for nature loving backpackers and collectors. A multifunctional nomad tube made of 100% cork to put stuff in while traveling and at the same time a torch, standing lantern or atmosphere light to hang or stand. And very easy to take along with you because of the detachable belt.

Another completed project I worked on in my free time; eight postcards with Illustrations of cute baby animals. This set of eight postcards consists of four series (two cards per serie):

- Antartica serie: pinguïn and polar bear card
- Australia serie: wombat and koala card
- Forest serie: rabbit and fox card
- Jungle serie: hippo and elephant card

Project: (16 + 16) City icons
/ Icons of well known and recognizable buildings from 16 cities around the world.

This project is now completed with the addition of the 16 minimised city icons. Same buildings, but in a smaller version for small screens and prints.
