Why do airplane windows have tiny holes?

Why do airplane windows have tiny holes? That little hole at the bottom of your airplane window isn't a crack or manufacturing mistake—it's a clever piece of aircraft engineering.
Commercial airplane windows are built with multiple layers, and the tiny bleed hole, also called a breather hole, helps manage the pressure difference between the pressurized cabin and the much lower pressure outside the aircraft. It also helps moisture escape, reducing condensation and keeping your window clearer during flight. �

But there's an even more interesting reason the hole is placed in the middle pane. Its design helps ensure the outer structural pane carries the main pressure load, while the other pane can provide redundancy if the outer pane is damaged. �
