Breaking News: An American lawyer says Nnamdi Kanu has not been sentenced to life imprisonment, arguing that what happened in court was not a valid judgment but a recital of a sentence that doesn’t exist in Nigerian law.
He claims the judge ignored a basic requirement of justice: presenting the accused with the specific written law he is said to have violated.
“Anywhere in the world, before you imprison someone, you must show the exact law they broke and the section that allows the punishment. In this case, they read empty words, not legal provisions,” he said.
According to him, Nnamdi Kanu is essentially under political house arrest, not serving a lawful sentence.
“Even in hell,” he added, “no soul is condemned without being shown the record of their actions. You can’t punish a child without telling him what he did wrong. So how do you jail a man without a written law? Don’t be misled.”
