Gen. Ogbonnaya Igwe was sent by the Chief of Army Staff to the East to beg Igbos to join the Army because they are no longer willing to do so.
Let us ask the simple question:
When NNPC is recruiting, do they send a General to the East to beg Igbos to apply?
When CBN is recruiting, do they send a delegation to beg us?
When Customs, Immigration, FIRS, NDLEA, or DPR are recruiting, do they come and plead with us?
No!
Those ones are done in secret. In Abuja. In offices. With slots shared among the connected. By the time we hear about it, the portal has closed.
But when it's time to recruit for the Army where you will face Boko Haram, bandits, and die in the bush for N50k, that is when they suddenly remember the South East and send our own brother to beg us.
Why are they hiding the recruitment for other agencies? Why is it only the military that needs persuasion?
Our youths are not foolish. They are not refusing to serve Nigeria. They are refusing to be used only as sacrifice while others enjoy the benefits. Many wants to join but the package is not attractive.
If you want Igbos to join, make the process transparent, make it attractive. Make it fair. Stop sharing the juicy jobs in secret and then coming to beg us to fill the dangerous ones.
We deserve NNPC. We deserve CBN. We deserve Customs. We deserve everything Nigeria offers, not just the Army.
