How To Apply Lip Gloss Perfectly – Step By Step

Some girls simply love shiny and glossy lips and lip gloss is their best friend! But overdoing the lip gloss can give a tacky effect. So, today let us see how to perfectly use a lip gloss to get pretty, pouty, kissable lips.

Things You Need
1. Lip Scrub
2. Lip Balm/Lip Conditioner
3. Lip Liner
4. Lipstick
5. Lip gloss

Basic Steps to Apply Lip Gloss
To begin with, follow these basic steps:

Step 1
Start by prepping your lips. If you have dead skin cells or chapped/cracked lips, then scrub your lips before you start prepping. Massage the lip, scrub all over your lips for about two to three minutes. Rinse it off.

Step 2
The next step is to use a lip balm or lip conditioner to get rid of the dryness. It will make your lips more soft and supple. Let the lip balm rest on the lips for about one to two minutes.

Step 3
Once you are done with applying the lip balm, take a tissue and blot the excess. This prevents the lipstick from bleeding and makes the application of the other products easier.

Step 4
Start by analyzing your lip shape. Using a lip pencil in the color of your choice, start the application from the center of the upper lip and follow the natural lip line till the corners of the lip. Follow the same procedure with the lower lip. You can also fill the entire lip with the same lip pencil as that works as a great base and helps the lip color to stay put for longer.

Step 5
Now it’s time for the lipstick. Apply the lipstick with a lip brush using short strokes and fill the entire lips. Using a brush while applying lipstick adds precision to the application.
Step 6
Start applying the lip gloss from the center of the lips and drag the sponge applicator along the length of the lips. Avoid applying the gloss above the natural lip line. You can blot the excess lip gloss on a tissue paper. This will prevent the color from bleeding.

Glosses are a must at parties – they really boost your hotness quotient. Tamar smiles! Give it a try and let's know about the compliments you received! We would love to hear from you.

3 Subtances Your Foundation Should Not Contain And 5 Ingredients It Should Contain.

There has always been a buzz on what ingredients are found in the cosmetics we slap on our faces. We spend so much time (not to mention money) on using skin care that is specially formulated for our skin type, as well as battling ageing, spots, pigmentation, dehydration, etc. If you spend the time and money on getting this right but then go and
apply makeup that’s full of toxic ingredients, you are just undoing all your hard work. So it just makes sense to follow your skincare routine by applying a makeup that, yes, looks good but at the same time is also good for your skin. Call it an extension and
maintenance of good skincare. In more recent times there has been a strong push on makeup that is all natural which is great. We are starting to become more conscious of what ingredients are harmful or beneficial. But there can still be some confusion which is what I hope to clarify here.

The truth is that they could actually be potentially harmful. Yes, we all want to look our best but at what cost? From clogging pores causing blemishes to
more serious skin irritations such as dermatitis, what you are putting on your face can have a less than desirable effect. So what ingredients should you keep away from?

1. PARABENS:
Parabens are a major one. These are preservatives that are easily penetrated into the skin, can disrupt hormone levels and even have a possible association to cancer. Not only that they can react with UVB and lead to premature skin aging! Methylparaben, butylparaben, and propylparaben are parabens commonly found in cosmetics and should, for the aforementioned reasons, be avoided.

2.PARFUM:
Parfum (aka Fragrance). This ingredient usually contains a cocktail of chemicals which may trigger allergies, migraines and asthma symptoms.

3. TALCS:
Talcs are also to be avoided as they clog the pores and do not let the skin breathe which is an
important factor in maintaining healthy skin.

That was the bad news. So, what’s the good news? What ingredients are going to ensure you don’t end up with red, blotchy and maybe even painful skin? There are, in fact, ingredients that are not harmful and actually good for your skin. So, the 5 ingredients your
foundation should contain are:

1. ZINC OXIDE.
This is a fantastic ingredient for a number of reasons. First up, it is a mineral not a chemical. Secondly, it is
hypoallergenic which makes it ideal for sensitive skin, and as most of our skin’s aging can be attributed to the sun, this ingredient also helps to promote sun protection preventing skin damage. Little of this zinc oxide will actually be absorbed into the skin, but it will do many jobs on the skin, including helping to alleviate any inflammation and will act as an antioxidant.

2. TITANIUM DIOXIDE.
This is another mineral which acts as a mirror, reflecting the sun (and the UV in it) away from the skin.

3. BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE.
This ingredient is a controversial one. It has, in my opinion, unfairly been given a bad rap in recent times.
It has been said that it can be a potential skin irritant. Like any ingredient, there are bound to be those out there who may have a reaction. But these a few and far in between and may be due to the quality of the ingredient. It is another ingredient that is sun resistant, water resistant, provides a calming effect on sensitive and acne prone skin, does not support bacteria and won’t clog pores. Aside from those
benefits, appearance wise bismuth oxychloride coats the skin for a flawless long lasting result, gives the skin a healthy glow and will not leave it dull and dry.

4. RETINYL PALIMATE (Vitamin A).
Only a very small amount is used (which makes it safe for pregnant women). What it does is it decreases adhesive forces between cells, promotes
natural exfoliating of dead skin cells and prevents the development of micro comedones, the first step in the development of acne.

5. TOCOPHERYL ACETATE (Vitamin E).
This is an effective, popularly used antioxidant which
helps to protect the skin from the environment. It is also great for anti-aging and helps to maintain healthy skin.
Finding that balance when it comes to makeup between what looks good and is actually good for your skin can be tricky. But hopefully this has made you a little bit more aware of what can be lurking in your products. Those with healthy skin know what
it can do for your confidence. You too can have that by making the right choices. When it comes to what you put on your face, including makeup, by being aware of the ingredients found in them and a little more cautious when you make your next cosmetic purchase, you are well on your way.

5 Make-Up Don’ts this Harmattan Season.

Our make-up should be perfect, no matter the weather and these tips will be the perfect guide. The harmattan season is characterized with harshness; and as much as we like the season, because of its underlying coolness (no sweat patches) the extreme dryness it leaves on the skin is not always a pretty sight. Piling on loads of make-up around this time usually ends up a mess especially or dry skin, which gets extremely dry, dull and unattractive. When applying our make-up during this time of the year, we should take notes of various factors amongst others.

1. Easy on the foundation
Applying foundation is necessary for a clean/fresh make-up look but during the harmattan period, it is necessary to reduce foundation to a reasonable minimum as it gets cakey which is not a good look. A good alternative for an everyday look is to ditch the foundation and go for a crème to powder make-up. It is necessary to apply this minimally as well.

2. Mismatched lip liner and lip colour
As much as possible, lip-liner and lip-colours (lipsticks, lip-glosses, lip-stains) used should be in the same shade; any difference in both gives off a rather tacky/funny look. During this period use lip-liners and colours in the same shade; well blended of course to achieve a coordinated look, makes your lip seem fuller and prevents smudging.

3. Easy on the blush
By all means, during this period, ease on the blush especially the powder blush. You don’t want to end up looking like a Barbie with powder dusted on the cheeks by midday. A good alternative is applying a cream blush minimally instead of the regular powder blush. When it comes to applying blush, never go heavy.

4. Wrong shade of the concealer
If you are using a concealer at this time, make sure it’s in your shade/colour; anything away from your colour will totally mess up your make-up.

5. Eyebrow filling
Filling your brows should be carefully done during the harmattan. If you can, totally ditch eyebrow powder as heavy filing could make your eyebrows look awkward, instead opt for quality brow pencils and gently fill in brows; don’t go heavy on this!
Stay beautiful into the new year!

8 Tips on How To Care For The Body In Harmattan

The harmattan season is here! The season of cold mornings, freezing nights and hot afternoons. The season of dust and dryness. And if you don’t watch your skin, you’ll wonder if you were related to the reptilia. Even those who render the melodious tunes may have issues with their voices and pitch.
Harmattan is an extremely dry dusty wind that blows towards the western coast of Africa from the Sahara desert, during the months November to March though things are changing now. Harmattan period is usually associated with low humidity which simply means there is very little amount of water in the atmosphere compared to other seasons of the year. As a result the weather appears harsh to our hair and skin. However, the harmattan season can be an exciting and vibrant season for you. You can look forward to this season when you have these tips-

1. Water:
Hydration is very important during the harmattan season. Your skin needs to retain as much water as it can get. Take lots of warm water to keep your skin moist and smooth. Reduce to the barest minimum your intake of carbonated (soft) drinks and caffeine.

2. Exfoliate the Skin:
These should be your greatest companions during the harmattan season. When you exfoliate your skin, you remove the dead skin cells on your skin surface for new, young skin cells. You can do it yourself with two tablespoons of healthy essential oils (coconut oil, rose-hip oil, almond oil etc.) and a tablespoon of
sugar. Mix and use a washcloth to apply on
your face, scrubbing in small circles. Then,
rinse. This rejuvenates and tightens your skin.

3. Moisturize the Skin:
It’s important to use mild moisturizing soap or body bath creams during this period. Also invest in body oil to retain moisture on the skin after bath. Do not completely dry your skin after bathing before applying the creams because about 10 per cent of moisture is retained if you apply on damp skin. You can pour few drops of oil into your bath water if
you prefer. Apply your moisturizing cream or lotion all over your body including under your feet and on your palms. Hydrating creams and lotion are advisable for all skin types this season.
Applying nail polish can also help protect your nails
from excessive drying and hardening.

4. Facial Care:
Use mild soaps (even if you have oily or combination skin) to wash your face, as harsh soaps and cleansing bars will remove all the oil on your face. Limit the use of facial cleansers and toners that contain alcohol or astringents, use only mild facial cleansers and toners. In light of this, facial cleansers and toners with a neutral PH of 5.5 are best. Always moisturize your face after cleansing. Remember to invest in a lip balm or lip-gloss and use as often as possible throughout the day. Always moisturize your lips before going to bed. For women, always apply lip balm before lipstick or if you prefer lip-gloss, apply it after the lipstick. For men, note that well kept lips makes you appear groomed, so invest in a lip balm for a non-glossy moisturized lip.

5. Care for Hair
Wash hair with shampoo and conditioner as usual, but don’t dry hair completely to retain some moisture in the hair. Apply liberal amounts of hair oil, pink oil,
lotions and creams to hair daily or every other day depending on hair type and severity of the weather. As much as possible, avoid using hair sprits, gels and strong hair hold, as they tend to break the hair. Mild styling mousse can be used for styling in their stead. You can use hair sprays to add shine to your hair if you desire. Scarves and hats are amazing accessories that can be used to protect the hair and still be fashionable.

6. Fruits and Vegetables:
Fruits act as cleansers while vegetables nourish your body. Try focusing on fruits that allow for water retention. In other words, eat fruits and vegetables with high water contents to keep you hydrated.

7. Proper Hygiene:
It’s important to keep dirt off your hands and fingers as often as possible because of the dusty environment. Hand-washing is very essential.

8. Exercise:
Just like every other season, the harmattan season encourages regular exercise. This allows for blood circulation and keeps you fit, freeing you of toxins. Stay Beautiful!
