P.O.E.M Framework is one of marketing’s most useful frameworks. It explains the three ways a brand reaches and influences its audience:
Paid Media is the attention you buy: advertising, sponsorships, boosted posts, and influencer campaigns.
Owned Media is what your brand controls: your website, content, email list, podcast, and social media presence.
Earned Media is the attention and credibility others give you: reviews, recommendations, media coverage, community discussions, and genuine word of mouth.
Paid media can put your brand in front of people. Owned media lets you control your message. But earned media gives people a reason to believe it.
That makes earned media the hardest to manufacture, and often the most valuable.
A business can say it is excellent on its website. It can repeat the claim through advertising. But when customers, journalists, creators, communities, and trusted sources independently support that claim, the brand becomes easier to trust.
And the way people discover that trust is changing.
Customers are no longer relying only on search engines, review sites, or recommendations from friends.
They are asking ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, and Perplexity which businesses, products, and services they should choose.
So, the next evolution of earned media is already here: AI is becoming the new word of mouth, recommending brands to searchers.
